224 Valkyrie 1 year later

Great interview. Glad to hear Federal discuss some of the growing pains with the new cartidge. It will stick around as long as more companies figure out good sub minute loads that work more consistently in more barrels/rifles.

I love choices and new things to shoot, thanks for the video i enjoy the 224 Valkyrie so far and hope for more in the future.
24'' barrel 1/7 twist seems to work well for me with the rounds i have been able to get so far.

Really want to give it a shot, brass is still expensive and can be hard to find
What's your definition of expensive?

.30 Cents each for Federal Brass

.38 cents each for Hornady

Or 40 cents each for Starline

I've gotten 4-5+ reloaded on Federal so far, which I bought at~30 cents each so that makes my current cost per shot .06 cents.

I can't get decent virgin 223 brass for much less: it's 24-35 cents per for Federal, Hornady or anything similar (not the once fired or cheap ass crap GBW etc).

I still think it's pretty damn cheap to shoot.

found the 75 grain online for 8.25 per box of 20 so far best price i have seen or the hornady 88 eldm for just about 10.00 per box of 20 that deal also seems to have sold out hope prices stay low cause the 90 gr smk was something around 30.00 box of 20 and that's nuts for me it is anyway.can only hope in the future i can reload and get the prices lower.

No growing pains for mine. Solid 5/8"-3/4" MOA with factory federal. Solid 1/2" with RE17 and either 90 or 95 SMKs out of a Shilen select match barrel. Mine was easy to find a good load for.
I think cheap inferior parts are part of people's Valkyrie problems.
Chasing the numbers Federal orignally claimed was a big issue.

Mine is 24" 6.5 twist and the first batches of federal I tried last summer got me 2749 for gold metal 90s. 3064 fps for the 75 gr TMJ, 3315fps with the 60gn varmint Ammo and 2714 fps with the Hornady 88s when they finally came out. My hand loads with RE17 are pushing 90s at 2730 and 95s at 2648fps. My 80gr loads are going 2864fos. They were clocked with mag speed. I'm sure there were some bad lots of Ammo out there, I did notice a difference in group size between 3 different lots of gold metal, but the worst lot was about 3/4". With my 95 SMK load, my dope was nearly identical to my creedmoore with 142smks out to 1000. I also took it Prairie dogging last summer and it worked well with some first round hits out to 750yds, that was my longest first round hit on a prairie dog with the Valk in two days of shooting. They are about the same size as water bottles.
So far I'm digging the round myself.
