Does anyone know the reason why some 22lr ammo comes with a waxy coating on the case itself. For example SK standard Plus is very waxy, while some others like the Norma Tac-22 (I think) are not. What purpose does this serve other than to make a mess?

little 'Over Spray' of the bullet lube that gets on the Case . is only reason I chalked it up to be .
in the past . I have had 2 , 10-brick cases of the same .22lr ammo but different runs . and had one with and one without the over-spray on Case .
It does attract a 'tiny more grime' in the bullet chamber, especially on a auto-feed .22lr . But ( IMHO ) .22 is the filthiest pig/ammo om the planet anyway to shoot . a tiny bit of lube over-spray on the case, 'Really' it is no more dirtier than just feeding lubed bullets in a .22 and shooting it .
it not worth it for Wiping every case off. I just follow my normal routine anyway when shooting .22lr . and just wipe/swab the chamber out a little when it seems to get a little stick to extracting when finished shooting .

I recommend shooting more of the ammunition rather than fussing over it.

1) Speak for yourself. I do not shoot bulk shit; CCI 0035 is as low as it goes. That said, they are all pretty dirty.
2) That's not true. Anschutz states a life of about 50,000 rounds, provided excellent care, and their steel is VERY hard.
Lesser barrels might be done in as few as 25,000-30,000 rounds.
If a guy shoots as much as he runs his mouth about on the Hide, maybe that's only a few year's worth of shooting.
I know for a FACT that one of my barrels has less than 20,000 left due to land washing. I will probably pull it before then, depending on what it does.

The Biathlon ammo is the only one I ever really felt the need to seek, simply because between:
1) Eley EPS
2) Eley Club/Target
3) SK Rifle Match
4) CCI 0035
5)...and pending usage of Gemtech Sub. for short-ish range quiet stuff. So far, it's pretty decent. About 1.5 MOA for 10 shots.
...I have covered just about all the .22 LR I need to branch into. Every firearm I have is covered well by one or multiples of those.
Hafta say though, that SK RM (ie: Wolf ME) is some serious friggin' ammo. I'd think maybe a dude could just put up with a little bit of lube on his fingers...

Would you mind sharing your opinion of "excellent care". I have an Annie 64 MPR built in the custom shop as I am LH and wanted it set up a little different. I have talked to Steve about it but he seemed more laid back with respect to cleaning. I don't clean my CF stick every time I shoot and follow the same process for my Annie.
Would appreciate your opinion. I share your comments on Wolf ME...far fewer flyers
That makes the most since to me. I've shot 1500 rounds of it so far and it hasn't caused any problems with anything. Like you said I'm definitely not going to wipe each one of them off just to remove it. As long as my gun shoots it well that's all I care about.
I'm somewhat new to the precision 22lr game. I was more curious than anything. That and it's mildly annoying getting that wax on everything. But like you said it's not much worse than regular 22 ammo that doesn't have wax all over it.
