Any of you folks built a bullet trap for your rimfires? I'd like to have one ine my backyard for some at home practice sessions. Any ideas?

Just a piece of sheet steel 1/4 inch thick at a 45 degree angle. Set it over a bed of loose sand. Cover face of trap with cellotex to catch back spatter and to pin targets or use clip for targets. I'd fill in the space behind the plate with sand or dirt also to reduce ringing noise. JMHO

Regarding FNP's suggestion, I have a friend that used rubberized undercoating on the back to take the ring out of plate steel.
I've used one the traps you can buy at Cabelas.
The bullet fragments splatter back out and it requires a tough target backer.
A piece of paper in front will get shredded in short order.

This is very much the same thing I did years ago on Mom's farm. I used 1/2" plate and used it for 45acp with cast lead bullets as well as 22lr. I used a piece of an old rubber conveyor belt for the front. The bottom was heavy plywood with 3 or 4 inches of sand in it. I had it mostly fabricated out of steel and mounted on a heavy wooden pallet. I could move it with the "carry all" attachment (looks like a fork lift forks)on the 3 point hitch. I usually kept it around behind the barn under a shed. I practiced a lot out there.

i chainsaw a flat on a nice sized hunk of preferabley green wood. lasts along time and is very quiet when struck,unlike the metal traps.the flat is where to staple up targets. i have a berm of dirt behind it as a secondary backstop just in case.

Nice! I used a similar Skid steer to do the same thing for my 100yd range, need to rebuild it due to erosion though. At home I use a super big old bow bag target that stops my cb loads dead to rights @ 15yd.

I just get railroad ties. Stack them up about 4 high and about 3 deep. Works great.

I built a 4ft sq 3 sided box about 2 ft high and filled it with some sand. Works perfect
