I am going to try the 500 yard 22lr shot today. I am using Shooter and Strelock apps. Shooter is saying I need 109.5MOA elevation and Strelock is saying 83.34MOA. I have put in everything the same for both apps I think. I am using 1060 as my velocity. Could someone tell me what the problem is?

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

Are all the variables the same in each (e.g. elevation, zero distance, temperature, humidity, mother's maiden name)? If EVERYTHING is identical from MV to BC, then the difference would be based on the differing equations Shooter and Strelock are using. But based on the large differential, I'd say it's a variable issue.

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

I tried it this morning at a ranged 506 yards. I can't even tell where it is going. I couldn't see any trace or strike on the ground. I got out there too late and the mirage was already very bad. I will try to get out there earlier probably tomorrow and try again. By my calculations if I didn't make a mistake which is likely it looks like if I am shooting at 500 yards with 22 at 1050fps it would be the equivalent of shooting a 308 155gr Scenar at 2780fps around 1180 to 1190 yards. Would that be about right?

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

I should also say that I am using a super sniper 10x and I have a total of 92.75MOA of elevation in my scope from a 50 yard zero. That is 79MOA in my turret and 4 mils totaling 92.75MOA so I have a little guessing to do to get out that far.

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

I have noticed this also with strelok. It does not match JBM info or even close to it. The website for strelok says it uses the G1 drag function, but with all else equal it doesn't put out the same numbers as JBM. After finding that out my faith in strelok is gone. I will be buying the shooter app and giving it a try as i have read lots of good info about it and they guy who makes it is a member here. Always a plus.

I suggest using a different approach to getting to that 500 yard shot. Shoot every 50 yards between 100-500. Learn what the drop is doing at each distance and record it all in your shooting book. It will be easy to see shots and get used to the progressive drop. From the shooters i have talked with only the best of the best ballistic calculators will get you on target first shot at very far distances for your rifle. And 500 yards is a long ass ways for a 22lr.

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

Just bought and downloaded Shooter. Very nice program! It come up with the exact same info as JBM as long as the same things are set. I realy like this app and can't wait to play around with it in the field.

Has GPS elevation, weather and a bunch of options to change that none of the others i have seen give. Can't wait to see how it works compared to the range.

It does seem like alot....cuz it is!

Was playing with max ord if I understand it correctly...its 19 MOA over the line of sight at its peak! LOL</div></div>

Wow. That puts it all in perspective.

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

Just for comparison. At 330 yards, mine was roughly 14' of elevation even though my program said 100". Also, I never would have hit the target the 1st few times without my son calling the splashes in the dirt with a spotting scope. That helps big time!

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

You need to make sure you enter in your zero weather info as wall as your current weather at your location. I use this same app to shoot 500 with my TR and a VGM (Variable Gantry Mount). If you use a BC of .105 for the 40 gr bullets you should be pretty darn close. Clayne B also uses that same mount and app except he uses a CZ Scout for his rifle and our DOPE is damn near spot on.

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

Here is a pic to put it in perspective... I have shot 500 yards with just holding over...

If you look at the mountain with snow on it. and go up to the second tree line. that is the where i had to aim with a 50 yard zero. So i would shoot then go back down to see where i hit. ha ha

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

I posted this in another thread:

I can dial almost to 500 with my 22, but have only shot to 400. Hitting clays that far is lots of fun. At about 20% hit rate myself (MOA sized target is tough at any range). Biggest issue is bullet vel, as the hits seem to alternate between high and low at that distance, and that can almost be attributed to head/tailwind. It speaks to how sensitive such a small bullet is. Crazy though cause through the chrono, my ammo has single digit sd and es for 10 rounds. This rifle is VERY/scary accurate.

Have the 5-20 SS with a egw 30moa base, giving me almost 30 mils of up (cant remember exact right now having not needed it). I highly reccommend being able to dial over hold for anything considered consistant hits at 300+ yards.

My dope at 400 is 21.5 mils shooting Lapua Center-X with a bc of 0.13 at 1060 fps. I have confirmed that at all distances up to 400 and its been light out for JBM/Shooter/horus.
Rifle is a Rem 40x

Keep up good work. I dont really find myself pushing it further than 400 due to the inconsistancies of the ammo. But still fun if you like wasting ammo

Re: 22lr Ballistic app problem

i shoot 500yrds with my 22, my dope is 1.5mils to 100yrds from a 50yrd zero, 5.8mils to 200yrds, 10.7mils to 300yrds, 17.8mils to 400 and 27-29mils to 500yrds using blazer bulk ammo at 1250fps. with sub-sonic its 2mils to 100yrds, 7mils to 200yrds,17.8mils to 300yrds, at 400yrds im holding now and its about 25mils and 38-42mils to 500yrds. but yea about 100-114moa with a 50yrd zero with 40gr subsonic ammo.
