Suppressors .22LR Suppressor for Ruger

I'm torn between the AAC Element, the Silencer Co. Sparrow and the AWC Amphibian. I know there are quite a few others out there but none that I am aware of other than just company names (TBAC, Liberty, YHM, etc...) I just bought my first .22LR at a ridiculous price (Ruger 22/45 for $250 on Gun Broker) and obviously need a can for it. I'm leaning more towards something that can be used on different applications like the .17HMR, .22 Mag even though I don't really plan to have those two calibers in my arsenal. I've heard rave reviews about the Element and the Sparrow but wanted some of your personal opinions based off of experience with other .22LR suppressors. I need something not just quiet enough to shoot without protection but something that is "Quiet Quiet" where I can shoot it in my back yard. I'm replacing the Ruger upper with a Tac Sol which costs about $350 and a suppressor which will be in the range of $550 so I was contemplating just going with the AWC upper which is $1400 ($500 difference). It seems that 41db reduction is the most that is offered but are there better out there?

Also, would a longer barrel help in noise reduction lets say a 4" compared to a 6"?

Go with a TBAC 22L-1 or S1. I run a 22L-1 on my ruger 22/44 Lite and a Mark 3 and it is crazy quite on both. As far as barrel length goes, go shorter that way no matter what you shoot through it, most of it will stay subsonic which is going to give you that quite quite result you are looking for.

I really like my Silencerco Sparrow. Paid $400 and I like the design, easy to maintain and clean. Plus its full auto rated(not that I shoot full auto, just goes to build quality) and I can shoot 5.7x28, 17HMR, 22 Mag and 22 LR.

BTW I shoot in my back yard all the time and my neighbor is clueless. He was having a pool put in and there were 30 workers in his yard and I was out back shooting for an hour. No body ever heard a thing.

element/element 2. does really well on pistols. the sparrow is good too. the clamshell design makes life a little nicer.

Now, I've heard also that some .22lr cans that work well on a hand gun don't work as well on a rifle and vice versa. I think it was AAC that has this difference between the Element and Prodigy. Thanks for the help fellas, I'll take a look at the TBAC's as well.

+1 here. The L-1 is as quiet as they come, weighs like 4oz, and works like a champ with my .17HMR and my 5.7. Plus TBAC customer service is second to none.
As for barrel length, you know what they say...the shorter the better.

I just bought a sparrow Ss about a motnh ago... After alot of research, there are definitely alot of varying opinions but everything led to the sparrow. Almost everyones list of 'best 22 cans', always included the sparrow.

I have a Huningtown Arms Gaurdian on my 22/45 Ruger Lite and love it. It's very quiet and easy to clean.

the elements baffles can be hard to push out and the tube is a PITA to clean enough that the baffles slide back in easy enough. it is tits up for suppression on pistols though. if i were to do it over again, knowing what i know. i would do the sparrow but only because of the clamshells. the new element 2 doesnt have a removable end cap making the $60 pusher tool more of need. i use a brass punch and love tap them out of my element 1

As mentioned by twitch, they are a PITA to clean/take apart. My end cap needs to be super tight for it not to come off on my hosts, that means the take down tool must be in a vice and a strap wrench used. FRP is on par with my buddies gemtech OB(1st gen), which was much less money. It can't handle 5.7X28. Overall, not a bad can, just not worth the price. I plan to get a Sparrow or two in the future and sell the element...

Big difference between your choices, integral vs blast can.

For uniformly maximum subsonic velocity and therefor maximum range, maximum terminal impact, maximum accuracy, a lack of thread issues and a host of other reasons more, I went with an integral and never looked back.

As to needing to clean your .22 can. Shoot quality plated bullets and forget about all the rest for tens upon tens of thousands of rounds.

+1 for the Sparrow SS, works great on my 10/22 and 22/45 with paclite upper. I put a box of 550 through the pistol and suppressor no issues and suppressor came right apart for cleaning with no effort. Some 308 brass works great as a scrapper for the clam shells.

^Wow, that's pretty. Which matters here! QD would be better too, I sometimes almost start crossthreading when switching it around...not good for the threads.

I got a Sparrow SS last year. It's GREAT on my rifle (seriously quiet), and comes apart soooo easy, but to be honest it's not the greatest on the Ruger. FRP is quite noticeable, and makes me somewhat nervy when shooting out in the quiet morning. Others may be better...weigh your decision carefully, especially with the pistol application.

I got to shoot a Sparrow SS (I'm waiting on the stamp) on one of my future host pistols (Walther P22 Target) Friday with both some Federal bulk pack and Wolf Target. The Wolf (~1040fps) was subsonic out of the 5" barrel and very quiet. The Federal bulk pack (~1240fps) would mostly stay sub sonic out of the 5" barrel but 2-3 out of 10 round mag would go super sonic and you'd get a crack. I believe 4.5" and shorter is the magic barrel length for keeping most .22LR rounds subsonic (hyper velocities excluded). The Sparrow did not interfere with the P22's sights although the mirage did once the can got hot.

Overall I was extremely pleased with the Sparrow in all aspects. I found disassembly and clean up very easy after the range session. After about 200 rounds it certainly was not pristine nor was my P22. I still fail to see the logic of a non-user serviceable rimfire can. YMMV

I was fortunate enough to acquire a new Ruger 22/45 threaded and 5 magazines before the buying frenzy started. I'm looking forward to introducing it to my Sparrow when the stamp arrives.

I have heard a good number of 22 cans, still trying to find one that my ears tell me is quieter than the TBA 22L-1. all cans tested where on a 22/45 at that

What is it that you don't like about the Element? Also, is it the Element 2?

UPDATE. I should have read all the posts before replying. I have an Element 2 in my dealers safe (thanks to Silencer Shop). It came with the dis-assembly/re-assembly tool. I will post a review after I have time to work with it. My brother in-law got a Sparrow at the same time so I'll have the opportunity to do a side-by-side.

I am happy with the Sparrow. It did have a substantially louder first round pop but after about 200 rounds that seems to have gone away. I have only shot it on the Ruger lite. It is at my dealer waiting on the Form 4 to come back. I can't bring myself to bring a scoped rifle to a 25 yard indoor range to try it out.

+1 Sparrow. Like the last poster said FRP was really noticeable on a handgun but mostly goes away once you get it a little dirty.

I am a huge fan of the AAC Element 2 (it is built like an absolute tank) and Prodigy but the Silencer Co. Sparrow is a great can as well.

I have also looked at the sparrow, like what I have read about it and will be getting one soon. I just feel bad for the grackles, the wont know what hit them!
