I have shot 22LR for over 60 years. I have had some wonderful shooters - several of which I kick myself for selling. I am in the process of raising funds for an Annie Fortner.
(In my younger years, I was on the US Olympic medical staff for Winter Sports and fell in love with the Biathlon crew!) At any rate, here is my question to you all: I love accurate guns and I like shooting out to some distance. Have any of you found that shooting the 17 caliber rifles is more fun or rewarding than the 22's? I know - get both, but I am pushing 70 and am trying to cut back on the number of guns I own. I do have several centerfire rifles that do reach out and touch things, so perhaps the 17's are not necessary. Have go admit that I do like guns with a little power as well. Probably answered my own question, but I wondered if any of you ever contemplated switching to the 17's?????

I think it's the 1727F, that is a Fortner in 17HMR ,check out the video's on you tube.

Anyway, heck yeah that would be cool to own both the 22 and the 17! As it is I have the 22 cal 1827F biathlon. No way I'd trade it for the 17 cal Fortner but the main reason is I use it for 22 rimfire matches.

Maybe if I was going to use a Fortner for specifically varmint hunting I'd consider the 17.

Obviously one can use the 22 for hunting and matches so it's more versatile and with good quality match ammo sub moa is normal. Mine averages around .8" at 100Y.

Part of the attraction of the .22lr is relatively low cost shooting, you lose a lot of that in .17 don't you? I couldn't shoot the match I go to with it, you'd punch the steel.
