First off, i KNOW this thread is useless without pics, but just had to share a shot i made last nite around midnight. A buddy of mine wanted to give his new foxpro a go and we knew a couple semi urban spots where coyotes frequent.
first set was dead..not even any raccoons but our second set went all of 5 minutes using a pup in distress call when a decent sized female came hauling ass into the speaker. she stopped 20 ft short of the speaker when he finally found the mute button on the remote. he cranked up the big light, and she stared right at us.
She sat down facing us, and kept looking down to the speaker (she was situated on a short hill, about 10-12 feet above and roughly 7-10 yards behind it). I sent a CCI 40gr hp and hit her right in the top of the brisket, her head was hung low, and I was aiming for the eyes and forgot to reset my elevation from the hornady loads which hit about 1.5" higher than the CCI stuff.
Complete pass-thru, severing the spine just south of her shoulders with an exit wound about 1.5" she was DOA when we got to her 2 mins later.
lasered distance was 98 yards. That is about 10-11 inches of flesh and bone that the bullet went thru with a vengance. Don't let ANYONE tell you that the WMR isnt' enough gun for song dogs...my buddy was even skeptical and was hoping for some closer range action with an xtra full turkey choke and 3" loads of #4 buck.
Might be able to head back out to the spot to get pics tomorrow.
now back to your regular programming...
PS,i kept the tail, very bushy and full of fleas. sprayed it with deep woods off before putting it in the truck...now i have to figure out what i'm gonna do with a coyote tail. I think i'll hot glue an arrow shaft into it and give it to the wife to use as a duster...yeah...that oughtta go over REAL well.
