anybody shoot the 230`s in a 26 inch 10 twist 308,,if so will it stabilize 100% even in cold at the low velocity of the 308,,

what speeds can a man expect in real life shooting??

any favorite loads would be nice info also,,

thanx eric

30" here so not what you wanted but relative I guess. 2490 with varget, 2515-2530 wish with H4350 and about the same with imr 4007ssc. With a longer throat, I'd use them exclusively. Mine are ~3.050" oal.
Why shoot them? Because it's over a full moa less wind @ 1k than my 2800fps 185 berger load.

There is no doubt that they have a high BC, but so does a 208 AMax and you can fit them in a mag. For F Class they would rock, for banging steel or hunting it would get old feeding one at a time. Having said that it is a good option.

Haven't tried the Berger 230, but I loaded up a few Hornady 225gr BTHP in 308 for shits n gigglz.

moly'd 225gr Hdy BTHP
Win brass
CCI 200
RL-17, 48.0 gr
3.08" oal

This yielded 2500 fps in a 20.5" Rem Varmint barrel, and showed potential for good accuracy.

I shot it at 105 yards, and at 1180 yards with good results. Heres a look at the 105 yd target,

At 1180 I was shooting at a 1 moa rock. 3 hits, one close miss.

Long way of saying that the 230 may have some good potential, but a short throat could force you to put too much bullet in your case, and rob some useable volume needed for powder to get that big bullet up to speed.

I know a few people that either have used or currently use 230 Hybrids in a .308 bolt gun for F-TR. There are a few critical issues that have discouraged more people from trying that combination. The first is recoil management...it is neither simple nor easy to efficiently manage the recoil with those big pills. The 2nd issue is the chamber specs. If you want to get the most out of a bullet that is far from ideal for the case size of a .308, you're going to want a freebore somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.250-.300" (don't remember exactly what FB my buddies have been running, but those numbers are close). This means the rifle will be almost useless for any other load/bullet. With a rifle chambered optimally for the 230s, you can expect somewhere in the 2450-2500 fps range out of a 30-32" barrel if loaded properly. Otherwise, they're going to be stuffed way down in the case, creating a whole new set of issues, and the velocity will be very mediocre, defeating the major purpose for using 230s, IMO. The final problem has been that the 230s have been extremely difficult to find; much more so than other reloading components, which have routinely been in short supply. There have been a number of F-TR shooters that have tried to work with the 230 Hybrids over the last year or two, but for the above reasons, most have given up and gone back to something like the 200/215 gr Hybrids, which are a little easier to work with. YMMV.

If you're set on using the 230s, I believe Bruno Shooter's Supply got a big shipment in about 3 weeks ago, there may still be some available.
