I think the next build is going to be a 243 AI fir one of my kids. I have a few questions. This will be a hunting rifle. Starter is a 6 digit Rem 700.
Here are the questions I have:
1) which shoulder? .270 ir .266
2) Twist for heavier bullets?
I don't think there are any other questions except who I am going to hire to build it. Thanks in advance for your input. db

Re: 243 AI ?'s

1-8 twist for up to 105's
1-7.5 twist for up to 115's

Just depends on what bullet you are looking to use. A 105 Berger at 243AI speeds does a number on anything you point it at for deer size critters.

Not sure what those shoulder measurements are. I think you meant neck measurements. A .274 neck will be tight enough and allow no neck turning and still be minimum specs. Make sure your smith sets the chamber up correctly. The bolt should close stiffly on a factory case. I set mine up to give pretty good resistance on a virgin case. This way I get zero case stretch during fire forming. I have a separate barrel that I use the cream o wheat method in, so the min headspacing works well for that.

The 243AI is a hell of a round. You will love it.
