In the Nightmares of Ghogs
Tried finding a max charge to load with R22 using the 105 AMAX but couldnt find any info.
.
Anyone have an idea? I saw 7RM's load in the "depot" section that I'd like to try and doesnt look like it would be all that bad but would like to have an idea what the max is.
.
I have some loaded up with retumbo currently was thinking of trying varget as well. Would prefer to stay with one of the "extreme" powders to avoid issues with temp changes.
.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Check out the Hodgdon Reloading Centre they have lots for the 105 AMAX....
"""
105 GR. HDY A-MAX Hodgdon Retumbo
CAL: .243" MINCOAL: 2.760" START: 46.0 VEL: 2772
MAX: 49.0C VEL: 2986 49,700 CUP
"""

Also, Dan Newberry's OCW page (see link below) says OCW for Retumbo/105gr is 48.5 gr. He has said here on this site that that load has worked really well for him.

I tried Retumbo (46 gr) with the 105AMAX in my factory Rem 700-V 1/9.25" twist and some would keyhole. Besides the rate of twist issue, it seemed pretty hot for a starting load, more pressure signs(shiny base, flat primers)/recoil/muzzle blast than I've seen with any other powder, even some that I worked up to max listed from the Lyman manual. Same thing with Retumbo in my brother-in-law's .270 WSM. That stuff seems to have some serious 'jam' for starting loads. I was thinking of trying it with 95 gr SST's if I can find a load for it since my gun seems to like those better. Anyone have a similar experience with retumbo? Let me know how it works out for you...

BTW, varget with 75 gr VMAX at starting load of 37.5gr has gives me the best groups I have gotten so far with this gun (<.75") and I haven't tweaked it at all yet.

Re: 243 and Reloader 22

Oh yeah sorry I read your post wrong.

From Steve's Reloading Page:

105 grain bullet:
"RL-22 From 37.8 grains to 45.0 grains"
He has retumbo (46g - 49g) flagged as his top choice for the 105 gr.

I can't vouch for the load safety, but I have found in the past that "Steve's Reloading page" has alot of loads I couldn't find anywhere else and the charges seem comparable to other sources for the same powders...

www.stevespages.com

I think maybe he uses a program to generate all that data?
