OK. My 243 is finished and I'm mounting the scope tomorrow. Now I need some data for the 115 DTAC non-coated, Retumbo and Lapua brass. I searched the site and found data for the 115 but not with Retumbo.
What do you 243 guys have for me here?
I also have some H4350 if that works better.

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

Retumbo seems to work for some, I never could get enough in the case to make the velocity of H1000 or H4350.

    44gr H1000 should be a safe start or 40gr H4350.

Sweet spots with H4350 seem 41.5 to 42.5

All my loads jump at least .010

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

    Interesting. I have H1000 and H4350 so I'll give them a try.
My reamer is the same as the one GAP uses, according to Dave Kiff. I asked for one that could specifically be used with the 115 and AICS mags.
The barrel is a Brux 1 in 7.5 twist M24.

    Jerry,

43gr of H4350 puts the 115's right at 3k fps out of my 27" barrel. It was the first load I worked up for the rifle and was so accurate I never bothered to try anything else. No pressure signs at all.

I'm doin' some shooting at Steel City next week. If you've got time come join me!

This is my exact load as well with Lapua brass. Coated Dtacs right at 2990.

I broke the barrel in Sunday with some 75 gr Hornady factory loads. After a few rounds of clean and shoot I decided to go after my 300 yd steel. Found the plate with round two and then put three in a group smaller than the bolt head that holds the plate. DT1 was there with me so I have a witness.
Today I was shooting with my son so I loaded a few DTACS with H4350 to satisfy my curiosity. I had five at 40 gr, five at 41 gr and five at 42 gr. They were seated in .026 off the lands. They were all respectable and I saw no ejector marks or primer issues at 42 gr. I'm going to repeat the test at about .010 off the lands as soon as I can and see what happens.

I had excellent results with 47.5 grs. of Retumbo using Lapua brass, Wolf LG primers & BN 115 DTAC's. While not the fastest load around it would consistently deliver 1/3 MOA at 400 yards.

Here's a pic, although not a good one, of my rifle.

I actually have H4831SC on hand, quite a bit actually, from my days with 260 and 6.5x47. Got any data that I could try? I actually like that powder a lot.

My original load for my 243s was 43.5gr H4831. Very accurate but a little slower than the H4350 load.

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

I've recently been doing load development for my 243. Being as that i'm never satisfied, I have to try every combination avaialble in order to fully understand the load and its capabilities.

    My gun has a 24" 1/7.7 Bartlein

I've settled on 49.8 grains of H1000 using BN coated DTACS for 1/4" moa and 3050fps. You must use a drop tube as that is a full case of powder. My consistency was very good too. SD was 11.3 and ES was 17. I was very happy with it. It met all of my requirements.

I went all the way to 50gr. of H1000 and never saw and pressure signs.

That is not to say that other powders did not perform well. I specifically wanted a very temp stable powder that produced a desired velocity and accuracy with great consistency.

H4350 was also excellent in terms of accuracy(1/4moa), just about 100fps slower than I preferred at 2950.

H4831SC also worked well(1/2moa) but a little slow at 2900.

Retumbo was not bad but showed instability across a 25 degree temp swing as did RL25.

I tried some RL17 also but it did not ladder well.

If you consider using the 105 AMAX - H4831SC, H4350, Ramshot Hunter, RL17 all worked well and proved rather stable at 2900-3000fps and laddered extremely well in my rifle.

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

I got all the way up to 42.5 gr H4350 with the DTAC yesterday without pressure signs. I think I'll drop back to 42 gr and do some chrono work now.
I did shoot a few 105 Amax yesterday and they shot extremely well. What are you guys thoughts about the 105 for 1000 yards?

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

I'll be honest, I really like the 105 AMAX. When you can drive them fast enough, they do really well at 1k. My boss set a 10 shot 1k yard record back in 2003 using the 105 AMAX and 4831SC. He swears by them and based on the groups that I have shot with them using the 4831SC, I can see why. That combo performs great in my gun and they seem to work extremely well with just about all the popular powders and are not sensitive to jump.

The 115 DTAC's just allow the 243 to perform to a different level when driven to around 3k or more.

I'm on to my next project of blending powder for the 243. So far, it rocks.

AH, the old "top secret" Tubb blend, huh?

I have found the Sierra 107 SMK to shoot very well in 6BR. Maybe I'll try them too. But I have about 800 DTACs.

    Re: 243 Win 115 DTAC & Retumbo

I did hear something about a Tubb blend so I had to give it a shot. I mixed a little of this and a little of that and topped it off with some Power Pistol and BOOYAH. Custom blend guaranteed to knock your socks off. ;o

I've shot the 107 Sierras, 115 Berger VLD's, 115 DTACS, 108 Berger BT, 95 Berger VLD, 105 AMAX, and 105 Scenar. All have shot phenomenally in my rifle. I was lucky to get a truly accurate barrel.

I'm still waiting on some Berger 105gr. 6mm Hybrids. I think those are going to be the hot ticket.
