So after the break in of 87 rounds this is what my Carbon barrel looks like. I shot 7 rounds today string of 3 then a string of 4 today and stopped after noticing these issues. I cleaned it after every one shot for the first 25 rounds after inspection. Barrel shot great around 3 in group at 850. Never shot a string of more than 5 during this entire process and let cool for at least 15 minutes in-between each string. And never more than 30 round in a day as i was getting ready for my elk trip since I got my custom rifle back 3 weeks ago. Rounds average velocity was 2976 with 180gr Norma 300 rum. Anyone ever see anything like this cracked and peeling off Carbon fiber, white thread coming out of Carbon on barrel? I'm calling them tomorrow

I have multiple proof barreled rifles never anything like this completely smooth. Even a Christian 300 rum that didn't do this

Yeah you have a delamination issue. Caused by the difference in heat expansion between the two Materials ( carbon fiber and SS). Good news is it will likely not affect your elk hunt ( assuming the groups you shot look good). Bad news is that the delam is likely to continue.

Yeah there have been multiple threads in the past about wrapped Bartlein barrels have this issue. Like has to do with the wrapping and curing process of the company modifying the barrel.

Thank you and that sucks. Any issues with continuing to keep shooting? Have they rectified it do you know
The carbon will continue to fail, however the actual barrel is unaffected unless the whole wrap comes off which would affect the vibrational characteristics of the barrel. So short term I don’t think so, long term the barrel is toast.

I wonder what company is wrapping the Bartlein barrels? That carbon pattern looks like a company out of Lewiston, ID

That's not good. I'd imagine all those cracks are going to grow with any wet freezing weather. I have multiple proof barrels and 1 carbon bartlein barrel. The finish on the proof-research barrels are much better.

Hopefully Bartlein makes it right.

I'm just gonna throw this out there. I'm not sure if it has any effect on your carbon.

I see you had the stainless part cerakoated.
Did the person doing the coating bake it at too high of a temperature, causing the delamination?
So I spoke to Bartlein they said their barrel shouldn't be above 170 degrees. My guy did cerakote his doesn't go above 200. They are going to rewrap it in carbon for me whoch is wonderful and in glad they are standing behind their product. Just seems odd anything above 170 cooks it per his words my firat expeirence hearing that im no officianato when it comes to cerakote et . I figured after shooting a couple rounds it would be hotter than that. Mark said it wouldnt affect the barrel so just shoot it. Who knows I'm just glad it's getting fixed. They also said it's a known issue on the phone if that's the case shouldn't a disclaimer come in the package DO NOT CERAKOTE above 170 just food for thought.

All and all Bartlein is a stand up company and have always heard amazing things this is my first experience with them so I'm a happy camper. Barrel was shooting so good didn't wanna replace the whole barrel. Ill keep ya posted. But you were spot on 100%
