25 gt vs 25x47 lapua. Help me decide please.

Hi. I have a brux 26inch 25cal 1-7 twist barrel on order. Looking to shoot berger 135 hybrids in the 2850/2900fps range.

Trying to decide if 25 gt will do the job or if I need to go with a little more case volume on the 25x47.

Looking to use h4350.

Of the two, the 47 would be damn close. I’d assume the high side of a fast barrel 47 would be 2900 but averaging between 2800-2850. This is just a guess when compared to my 25 creed

I'd go x47 because you would be sizing the neck down verses expanding the GT's neck... that is unless someone has started making 25GT factory brass. That way you don't have any issues with the thicker shoulder material working its way into the neck.

That said, if your set on only using H4350 and not Varget, RL15.5, SW precision or N150 the GT's case/bore size in a 25 cal may be a touch on the slow side. H4350 works with the 6mm GT but I have found it to be more temperamental than those other four. The same can be said for RL-16 in my experience.

With the Berger and the GT you will not make 2850. you’ll probably make 2850 with the x47, but not 2900 without being very close to pressure .I did a lot of work working up a 25GT with the 131. I am still working on the Bergers. Best I can do is 2725 without pressure signs. I have a buddy running the 135 at 2800. But he is right at the edge.
For the speeds you’re looking for go creedmoor. There is no advantage to pushing a cartridge to the limit.

As has been said already, creedmoor will be the safest option. You’ll also be able to buy 25 creed brass(from Alpha) instead of having to re-size GT or x47 cases

My friend shoots 135s in a 26" rock creek 7tw from a 25x47. 2830 is mid node, top is right at 2900, bat action. Wanting to run 2900+ year round in poor conditions at a match I feel will lead to psi issues. 25cm is the answer if wanting to run 2900+ all the time. I've burned 2 25cm barrels, 131 blackjacks worked at 2850 and 2930 in my 26" 7tw kreiger. The other barrel was 135s at 2860 or 2940, 2940 was warm and ran that fall through spring. My 3rd 25cm is a 28" 7.5tw running 135s at 2860. It also runs 2940 well with no psi, but I have a longer barrel. The Bergers have a lot of bearing surface and I feel 170fb is needed in the creed and around 150 or so in the x47 with its longer neck.

It was, 342g7 was my experience in a 7 and 7.5tw calcd out to 1200y. Sad deal they had some mismanagement and supply issues with Sierra, eventually collapsing the venture. The bullet was quite forgiving even though had a very aggressive bc driven profile. Wouldn't be surprised if Sierra took the design, made a few tweaks to not infringe upon patent and made their own version. But hell they they can't even come close to keeping up with their normal tmk and smk demands. There's a new 134 eldm in testing, that has an advertised bc of 325g7. The 133 elite hunter is right there as well.

I am getting 2860 out of my 25x47. 26" Bartlein. It's just below pressure and I am getting BR like consistency (Low SD and ES) with the 135 Bergers with H4350.
It likes the higher node.

IIRC Lapua is not making x47 brass anymore. Its on the list of indefinitely suspended case designs.

Yeah I’m running my 25 creed at 2870 with 135s. I can get up around 2950 but that’s about as high as I’d ever go

Berger says minimum of 8 twist for the 135. Id probably go 7 personally.

I run 7.5 in the creed but might step to 7 for the gt.

I'm using 7.5tw in 25cm and in my normal 2-6k da, season dependant, I have been able to use the ab curve to true up out to 1200y.

I only have one hundred rounds through my 25x47 and I was getting 2875 fps with a 27” bbl. super low ES/SD’s in the beginning. It’s probably sped up since then.

I had a reamer made by Manson with a .190” free bore so I’m not crunching powder allowing me to seat the bullet out past 2.87”and still be off the lands, and still have enough neck tension on the bullet.

Good shooter, shoots like my 6.5x47 Thunder Ranch Rifle….. 1/2” moa easy, out to 800 yards both are extremely easy to make hits with. The newer 25 wears a Brux #17 HV and I’m just under 16 pounds w/o a bipod…. I have a 26” 1:7.5 Proof CF to chamber so I can start using it with a bipod and be under 16 pounds.

The TRR is right at 14 lbs for NRL Hunter, and CD type field matches. Been a favorite since I got it back in 2014.
