Its not that they are banned outright. They are just so heavily regulated that it discourages ownership. The biggest joke is that there is an arbitrary requirement to have "heavy barrel" or HBAR because that makes it closer to a clone of the Colt Sporter and less of a "military grade" weapons system. Try asking the MSP what the specs of a heavy barrel are. No one there has any answers. You are commonly told by the firearms licensing division that it simply needs to be labeled HBAR on the barrel or marketed as an HBAR/Maryland compliant.I live in MD, I didn't know ARs were banned here. For something that's banned, I sure see a lot of them at the range...and have purchased several of them legally.
Who knows with Breyer retiring now. They will likely punt as much as they can.Any idea when the SC would hear this case or even take it up to hear it?
I forgot to use the sarcasm font. I'm aware of the HBAR "requirement", that really only applies to buying a fully assembled AR, since nobody knows what the spec is, thus it would be near impossible to enforce. Of course, I'm sure they would investigate it for an additional charge in a criminal case. Its not that they are banned outright. They are just so heavily regulated that it discourages ownership. Thank god for a company/gun shop like Engage Armament in Rockville. They build and sell "Maryland compliant" AR-15's and components if you want to build your own.
I'm sorry I missed the sarcasm. Its tough being a gun owner in Maryland. I'm sure the MGA is enjoying the fact that we can't come to Annapolis this year to testify on gun bill day.I forgot to use the sarcasm font. We live in a 2A Sanctuary Country, so I'm not overly concerned.

yeah you go open carry your handgun and AR around DC or MD and see how many cops won't "deal with it." unfortunate, but true. and the prob with getting busted for that is you lose the rest of your firearm 'privileges.' we're (gun owners) more of a trophy for lawmakers and LEO than some potheads, and we're generally not going to get a pass. Look at the vast time and resources for Jan 6 and no one was even armed. We need to treat all of the unconstitutional gun “laws” like the hippies did their weed, weed is far less important than a constitutional right, yet the hippies didn’t ask, they just flipped the bird and went about their business, and now it’s ether legal, or “de criminalized” to the point police won’t deal with it and DAs know the cases are loosers off the bat, plus reelection suicide.
I'm in NY. Alot of places in other states won't even ship ammo, either due to thier hatred for NY, or because they have muddied the waters so much with the safe act, no one feels comfortable doing it anymore. Firearms are just as hard. Your comment is spot on.yep don't ban them outright as that would be crazy and make the dems/libs look really bad, but do the next thing and make it close to impossible to define what is legal and what is not. thus deterring law-abiding citizens from buying them (or out-of-state dealers from shipping to MD).
