Have you seen the semi-auto Remington, think it's the Tac-13? A lot more money than this but it's pretty dang slick.

Don't know who started this trend [Mossberg or Remington] but I have the Mossberg Shockwave in 20ga. and believe it will have plenty of stopping power at its intended range. No.3 buckshot gives a good spread at 7 - 10 yds. that makes it formidable at hallway distances. Slugs are terrifying.
I believe with enough practice a well centered shot can be placed from the hip. Have added a picatinny rail to mount a Bushnell TRS25 on a high rise mount to improve situational awareness and to keep even the modest recoil away from your cheek/nose.
Also have a Streamlite TR4G [light with green lazer] that I can mount low to the receiver and manjplate the light only, light and lazer or lazer only with my support hand.
Added a short sling to carry over the shoulder with muzzle down that can still be rotated into firing position with one hand.
It has joined my handgun beside my bed and in my vehicle. For $250 it is a no brainer for self defense at home or traveling.
I have a CCP but need to talk to my sheriff to see what is the appropriate carry method in my vehicle. Anyone know about this in NC?

I been looking for a reasonably priced and short over & under with ejectors for donkey years. I know Stoeger makes a couple without ejectors but I didn't really find them too appealing due to rough actions.

I believe the whole thing started when Shockwave Technologies figured out their birds head grip added to a Mossberg Cruiser plus the 14 inch barrel Mossberg had in their catalog perfectly fit the legal definition of a non NFA "firearm". That caused a huge run on the short barrel kits from Mossberg. The Cruiser reciever was the only factory receiver on the market that wasn't already a "shotgun". Couldn't make one out of an existing shotgun. Didn't take Mossberg long to figure out why everyone was suddenly buying the 14" barrel kits. The rest is history. It's the kind of regulation that will probably be "reinterpreted", so if you want one buy it now.

As long as you're using the adapter they run just as smooth as anything else...

I should have done a little research before buying the 20ga. That little adaptor would give a lot more fire power and the recoil from plinkster's video seems modest. Going to email them and see if they have plans to make one for the 20ga.
Have a friend with the Keltec twin mag tube that feeds the mini shells 100% of the time, 12 in each tube! Just did not want to spend $600.00.

IF you could find one (good luck), you'd need a stamp before you could put it in the gun and "rock on" since it would make the gun FA.

You'd have to find a *transferrable* one that's already in the NFA database. I'm guessing that if there are any at all in the NFRTR, that the population is in the single digits.

I have an 870 AOW, and shoot it regularly. My friend's ranch has cattle on it, and we often go out to kill ground squirrels. The 870 AOW is now a requirement to bring out there. It's practical and novel for first timers. The best is when we go out on colder days, and multiple ground squirrels will be standing up on rocks. If they are within 10 yards, a #6 shot clears that rock in one shell. Smiles all around.

I travel frequently for work for several days at a time. When I'm gone, my wife keeps the AOW around because full size shotguns are harder for her to maneuver around. She was very reluctant, but as a trap shooter, she has zero issues keeping pellets on target at inside the house distances. No brace needed.

CA does allow AOW's and C&R SBR's....

*1 AOW’s other than Pen Guns are ok as long as they are not an assault weapon. With the exception of AOW assault weapons that were owned prior to the registrations period are ok. AOW’s are not required to receive a Curio or Relic classification.
Note In California most Class 3 items other than AOW’s must be classified as a Curio or Relic (C&R).
SBS and SBR, that are C&R as well has AOW’s as described above do not require any special state permits.

CA’s Assault weapons laws apply to assault weapons whether they are C&R or not. An assault weapon in CA if meets certain requirements found in the statutes. One of these is semi automatic center-fire rifle with the capacity to accept a detachable magazine that has an overall length of less than 30 inches is an AW. This would mean if you made (through a form 1) a SBR out of an M1 Cabine, it would likely be considered an AW under California law.

Which is exactly what I did, and put it in a reproduction paratroop stock. Definitely a fun shooter. I use it in our local 3-gun matches since we currently are limited to a max range of 60 yards.

It's not a shotgun (which is shoulder fired) an AOW, an SBS or any of the above. What it is is a "PGO" and a "shotgun-like weapon". The WA AG was asked by a judge for a definition on what constituted an SBS and he basically quoted and explained the federal definition and summed it up by saying it doesn't matter how long the barrel is on a PGO, only that it's 26" OAL (usually 26.5 to be on the safe side). You can have a 4"bbl. if you like, but you're gonna need like a 16" pistol grip.

I had a Mossberg Breacher I wasn't too fond of and I got a 14" or so bbl. from Mossberg and one of those birds head grips (which are MUCH better than a vertical pistol grip BTW!) and made my own. 26.5" or so, perfectly legal. Same OAL as it was before, shorter barrel, longer grip.

I personally would rather have a plain pump with a side saddle for one of these, no magazine, all they're really good for is breaching or really close defense, but that price ain't bad for an 870... I'd sell the fore grip and the magazine parts and get a plain fore grip that has the strap built in and a side saddle, but that's just me.

Just a heads up for anyone contemplating this - unless something has changed, this is only legal to do with a shotgun that has *never* had a shoulder stock installed.

Correct, nothing has changed. Can't make one out of a shotgun. That's why the Mossberg Cruiser started all this.
