250$

Re: 250$

basically leaves you with 2 choices - the savage or the marlin.

if you can get either with the heavy barrel for $250, that would be good. lately i've been taking a closer look at marlin over the savage in the .22lr arena, i can only assume they follow suit on the .17 side.

i wouldn't worry too much about the trigger, as drop ins are availble to add later when you have some more $.

i stopped in gander mtn the other day they had a savage with heavy barrel and accutrigger for $249 - i almost walked out with it as i think it was mislabeled and a steal, but my gun fund cash has to go toward a shotgun for goose.

centerpoint - 4-16x at walmart $70.00 ill. mildot reticle, turrets, adj obj and ocular focus. http://www.walmart.com/ip/CenterPoint-4-16x40mm-Scope/10248654

tasco varmint - http://www.opticsplanet.net/tasco-6-24x42-targetvarmint.html

vortex crossfire - http://swfa.com/Vortex-6-24x50-Crossfire-Rifle-Scope-P43585.aspx

checkout natchez shooting supplies, optics planet, swfa, sportsmans guide, and cheaper than dirt. do a search for optics $100 or lower.

generally you will get tasco, some bushnell, barska (not all that bad), leapers, and BSA (i'd stay away from). depends on what reticle you want, turrets, etc.

at a very minimum - clarity, adj. objective, turrets, and warranty would be my prime concern in choosing one
