My 1-8" Rock and Krieger both have performed beyond my ability w 139gr Scenars.
I went w a lighter contour fluted at 26" w a can or FTE brake and couldn't be happier, get alot of ooos and aahhhhsss when people heft my 260.

What is the issue with the 1:8,5 twist?
Is it only good for lighter bullets up to 123 grains?

1:8.5 will stable the 140 grain bullets fine. I run a 8.5 twist out of my 260 Rem and shoot the 140 VLD's. I have shot the 142 SMK, 140 A-max, and several of the 130 grain bullets. Either will do just fine for the 140 bullets.

I've been shooting .260's out of factory and custom 1:8" barrels for over half a decade, and honestly, I can't say.
Performance with 142SMK's at 2850fps and going the distance at 1Kyd strongly suggests that the twist works, and mildly suggests that maybe a bit less might work better.
Trying 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips in the 28" 1:8" barrel gave such disappointing 1Kyd results that I was left to wonder whether a 1:9" or even 1:10" might be better. Works great up close, but way further out, nearly double the predicted drop and drift with obvious signs that the bullets were not impacting nose-on, giving suspicions regarding overstabilization. But I can't say anything with certainty regarding that anomaly.
Trying 95gr V-Max in the 28" 1:8" barrel worked well with a tuner at the Hodgdon published minimum (47.0gr H4350) load, and load testing much nearer max with R/S Big Game suggests that my concerns about centrifugal detonation were misplaced. I have no idea what the velocities are, but I think they can be conservatively estimated at 3400fps or more. Accuracy appears to be an attainable goal.
For me, it's a crap-shoot; but so far, it's also being an enjoyable one.

I have a 1 in 8 shilen and the lightest I've tried are the 123 SMKs. Everything has worked very well so far.

I have a 1-8 and 1-8.5 twist. Both shoot extremely good with 139s. A 1-9 might work great.

Have an 8 twist Krieger on my 6.5 Creedmoor and it shoots the 140 AMAX very well. On twist I am always on the "a little faster is better than a little slower" school of thought. Easier to under stabilize than over. I wouldn't go slower than a 8.5 twist.

Big +1. Not if you plan on shooting the 140 grain bullets.

I will put this out there. I have a Gap .260 with a 9 twist barrel 24" and it will shoot the 139's tight. Tested out to 800. I will do farther when I get the chance, but I know that it will do just fine. Used both H4350 and RL22 with great results.

i agree with Rob01. a little more twist is your friend. 8" is my default twist rate for 6.5 bore.
