The title says it all - wondering what everyone is using for Redding neck bushing size for the new 260 Rem Lapua brass? I just picked up a box this week but do not have access to my press (at my brothers house 80 miles away) to check for outer loaded neck diameter. The gentleman at my reloading store reccomended .271 size bushings for 0.002 springback tension. Just checking in to see what everyone else is using?

thanks,
Jason

You probably know the formula but

neck thickness x2 + .264 -.002= the right bushing size.

.271 won't work... Probably somewhere between .288 and .293 depending on neck thickness and if you plan on doing any neck surgery...

Eric.

edit: Well Redding says this is the second best way but the way I have always done it

My loaded neck diameter measures .294"-.2945" with 139gr Scenars. I purchased a .292" bushing thinking it would springback to .293" or so but it sized down to .292" with no springback. Im going to get a .293" bushing and use that for new bras and see if I need to go down to .292" if the necks thin out a hair on brass with more firings on it.

Guy at the store is a tard. .271" would mean that your neck wall thickness is around .004-.005". Hmmm...

FWIW I use a .292. Works very well.

I loaded 650+ rounds for a buddy's no-turn Rock 260 Rem and using RP brass, it was either the .289" or .290" bushings, so I doubt the Lapua necks are much thiner than that, where a .271" bushing is required.

Im using lapua brass but the one round I have here thats loaded up with Rem brass measures .2905"-.291" I would use a .289" bushing for the Rem brass.

I use a .291 Bushing with Lapua Brass and Berger 140 VLDs. The outside neck diameter with the loaded round is .293. I started off using a .290 bushing but noticed a ring on the bullets where they contacted the seating dye during the seating operation. Because of that ring, I switched to the larger .291 Bushing and that problem was solved.

Did you turn your necks? That's about 1.5 thousandths thinner than most lots of Lapua that have came out.

Re: 260 Rem Lapua Cases : What size Redding bushing?

Hi Guys,

As a follow up to last week's post I ended up buying the .292 bushing and after a good field test with the new Lapua brass it works great! I found a load of 42.5 gr H4350 wih 139 gr. Scenars that put 4 rounds in 0.139" at 100m. Other groups measured in the 0.2 s. I really like the new Lapua brass and only regret that I have not used it until now. No more wasting time sorting brass and deburring flash holes.

The idea is to not overwork your brass so it will last longer. Along with setting your dies to only bump the shoulder back on your brass .001 you should use a bushing that is only going to put .001-.002 neck tension on the brass. Therefore you need to know the dimensions of your chamber. Did you have the barrel made with your reamer or is it a factory chamber? Take a fired round and mic the neck to see what the neck dimensions are for your chamber. If you have a .294 neck (SAAMI), then you would use a .292 or .293 bushing in your dies.
