I don't give a fuck if the military use .308, I'm not in the military and I don't see the need to use it just because OMG THE ARMY USE IT. .308 is overrated and offers no advantage to me as a civilian hunter/casual target shooter who handloads over various 6, 6.5 and 7mms. Poorer external ballistics and more recoil. Yes barrel life blah blah the difference for me would be rebarreling every 2.5 years instead of every 2, big deal. If barrel life was the ultimate consideration you'd be shooting a .22lr. For me the best compromise between performance, economy and recoil are .243, .260 etc </div></div>

As for compairing the BC's of .277's and .308's why not use the best ones. the 155 lapua will far outrun anything else in its class, but you compaired the 150 Burger (i use them) to the 155 Burger (works, but not the best). </div></div>
I'm not sure Midol is the cure for this character, i'm no doctor, however i'm pretty sure that he could be diagnosed with an acute case of keyboard commando syndrome. I'm quite sure now after the couple of posts i've read of his that his balls haven't dropped yet, and arguing with somebody like that is typically pointless.
As for external ballistics, who cares, range can be determined, wind can be estimated, it doesn't matter if the round has 100" of mid-range trajectory, or 80". If you don't have the skills necessary to make the required call to make the hit, all the fancy numbers in the world aren't going to save your butt when the hit matters.
Now you want to argue "poor exterior ballistics". Let's compare your .243 and .260 Rem selection to my .308 selection. All 3 are going to use Amax bullets that are the heaviest available for the caliber. We'll use 1000 yards as the test distance as that's where the largest variances are going to show up. Here's the data;

So all in all, this is comparing apples and oranges, but you wanted to make a comment on how "poor" the exterior ballistics are on the .308. I don't consider any decent centerfire cartridge any better or worse than another. I don't like magnums personally, but don't care if somebody else wants to use them. All I know, is that if it came down to it, and the world is in chaos, I can get .308 (7.62NATO) all over the place. I also prefer a cartridge that is EXTREMELY efficient.
Bevan, you need to learn to check your ego, and your attitude at the door before you come onto this forum, it's reactions, and posts like yours that clues everyone in that you have some issues, and are more than likely just some punk kid on the internet. Knocking a cartridge that is one of the most popular on this forum is just childish. It's a lot like saying that Fords suck, and Chevy's are better. You can have your personal preference, that's your right, but exercise some maturity is stating your preference through mature dialog, rather than childish bashing.
