Does anyone know of a rifle in .270 WSM that comes with a Heavy Barrel? I was sure the R700 would have one, but their website sucks, and I cant find one.. Savage doesnt have one.. I was concentrating on the R700 or Savage because of the aftermarket for stocks, ect.. But does another manufacturer make a heavy barrel 270WSM, that has a decent aftermarket? Or should I just look into having a custom barrel made if I wanted to go that route?

Also, maybe there is a reason that no one makes a heavy barrel .270 WSM?

I've burned 2 barrels and thousands of dollars trying to make 270wsm work - it just doesn't: bullet selection is not there - if the 150gn Berger doesn't work - what then?

6.5 SAUM and 7mm-270WSM just beat 270wsm to pulp with half the effort.

P.S. Savage makes OEM 270wsm heavy barrel.

Winchester made a model called the coyote for a few years and chambered the 270WSM. You can find them used or old stock pretty easily, there are several on gunbroker right now.

They alo chamber the coyote light in it but I think the barrel contour on it is a bit lighter.

270WSM is a bad barrel burner and the LR bullet selection sucks. If I was chambering something SA Mag I'd go with a 6.5 or 7 SAUM. If you buy a complete factory rifle for the cost of a barrel job then it would be a much cheaper lesson.

Well crap.. I thought I had my caliber pinned down.. What's the availability for reloading components like for those? I'm trying to find a lighter / faster bullet than the .308 for the 1000+ range, and I dont want to go heavier because I hate muzzle brakes, and my wife wants to shoot too..

Had GAP build me one back in 08 with a Med Palma barrel in a mcm m40 stock. The gun is a deer hammer and shoots the 140 gr abond well. I do not shoot it other than for hunting. Lots of 6.5 or 6mm out there that will serve u well shooting at the range out to 1k. Had a 7 saum just built, to take advantage of the good 7mm bullets out there. Had all it's parts bought up and sent off before the 6.5 saum 4s thing was unleashed.

Anything 6.5 is your answer..

My 270 WSM was chambered by ER Shaw on a Model 70 action - magnum profile - did it on a whim about 6 years ago. And it shoots 140 Accubonds sub 1/2 MOA. I only use it for hunting.
