Gotta be some other 28 Nosler fans here! Post your loads, data is still scarce out there for this round so post your results!

*please also put if you're using a SAAMI spec'd chamber, or if you've had it throated long, for the 195's.*

Still working on my load. But I have a bighorn TL3 long action, 26" proof 1-8 twist barrel. About 45 rounds down the tube so far, I expect the velocity to increase some still.

*not a SAAMI chamber, it's throated for the 195's*

195 Berger
3.715" COAL
79.6 gr Retumbo
CCI 250 primers
2950 Fps
5 Fps SD
10 fps ES

In my rifle I show no pressure signs, this should be up close to a max charge. But I have seen no pressure signs at 79.6gr. As always start low and work up

82.5 gr of RL-33
180 Grain Berger Hybrid .015 off the lands
CCI-250 primer
Nosler Brass
I'm getting 3100FPS with 26 inch Christensen Arms and averaging .510 groups (Hunting Rifle)

I'm think about trying the Berger 175gr Elite Hunters. I'm shooting a Chritensen Arms ELR 28 Nosler with a 1 in 9 twist. Im using this as strictly a hunting rifle. Anybody have any experience with these?

81 gr of retumbo 195 Berger federal gold medal match 215m primers threw 26 inch bartlien barrel 8 twist put me Wright about 3100 fps also I use bertram brass

I have plenty of both, use the H1000 in my 6.5 PRC. I may give it a try. Retumbo burns a little slower, if I recall, so it makes sense. my Experience has been that Retumbo burns a bit dirty compared to H1000. Any thoughts?

Eh I haven't noticed that really. It's a bolt gun and if you're not using a can it's not a big deal. I use mine for hunting so could care less how dirty the powder is. Prolly gets 20 rounds through it a year.

175 ABLR
88g RL33
3320 fps
Nosler brass
CCI 250

28” SAAMI chambered rock creek barrel, 8 twist.
Desert Tech SRS

shot exact same load with 180 ELD M but the speed and twist tore the jacket and projectile would break up mid flight. Very frustrating.

Gunwerks Magnus, GLR TI action, 24” Proof Sendero light CF barrel, Silencerco Harvester.
Loaded 50 in virgin Gunwerks Brass, Fed GM 215, 30-thou off lands, 80.3 grains Retumbo with Berger 180 grain VLD Hybrid. Ave MV at 2977, ES 11 (10 shot), .385 MOA at 100, rang MOA (10”) steel with impunity at 1035 yards today, even hit and destroyed my 3” diamond! I think Retumbo works, even with virgin brass Before load development...might not need it! Thanks for the advise!

175 ABLR

Hi 65guy... New guy here. I am loading a very similar setup to you with the 175 ABLR and 78 gr H1000... How did your groups shoot with the RL33? How far are you jumping that ABLR?

Thanks
Somemachinist

groups were pretty good- but mostly I work on steel at 800+. Very consistent hits on targets. Didn’t measure size. Jumped 20 thousandths.

I’m on my 3rd barrel in 28 Nosler only used H1000
180 Berger Hybrids 0.02 off the lands
FED GM215M and H1000 factory Nosler brass. Following is 49F and ~5000’ DA
77.5 gn 3084fps 0.33-.5 MOA
77.0 gn velocity NA .5 MOA
76.5 gn 3058fps .30-.5 MOA

MY gun is a 26” proof TL3 chambered by PVA. Be advised 77.5 is hot and I get ejector marks every time.

I have found and reloaded for other guns M48 Nosler 26” proof and 77.5 has produced 0.16 MOA - 0.22 MOA still get ejector marks

How many rounds have you been averaging per barrel

Edited with new data. Typo I have a 26” pipe not 28” and I’m getting 3058 now not 2999. Anyways I’m getting 450~ if I shoot them fast which I’ve shot 15 round strings before and the barrel was stupid hot to the touch. Also shot it entirely suppressed. When I mean toast, it gave up 1 MOA.

Two Bartlein HV barrels later I have my proof carbon at ~450 and it’s still drilling sub 1/2 tho it used to be sub 1/3 until 350 Ish. However I’m shooting much slower ie 1 RPM to 3-5 min between shots. It’s worthy to note I’m in AZ and shoot in the summer when it’s 100*

This is 450 ish rounds and still hammering along

Alright everyone, I have had my 28 built for about a year I have 150 rounds down the pipe and about to my load development. I shot 100 rounds of nosler factory for the brass and I was in a pinch and bought 50 rounds from Dallas reloads with 195's. I love them every animal Ive shot has dropped and even took it out over a mile. This is what I am thinking:
Nosler brass
CCI Large Rifle Magnums
Berger 195 EOL's
20 thou off the lands
H1000 (I use it for my 338's as well and try to keep the how many powders I use to a min)

24 in barrel

I normally do .2 grain jumps with load development and run 5 - 10 loads. Due to barrel life I am trying to keep this one to 5 if possible.
Where are people seeing pressure signs with H1000?

I have an 8 twist, running 195's. Shoots great, no issue stabilizing them. 2 issues you will likely run into are chamber and/or mag length. I am running CIP mags and a custom chamber, 3.715" COAL is .020 off lands with 195's.
I know I can get up to 185s on standard chambering and mag length... do I really need the extra 10g? Haha

What magazine are you running? blind mag or DBM? I'd see what max mag length is first, then go from there to measure chamber length. You can shoot the 195's with a shorter COAL, just gonna lose some powder capacity.
its a blind mag.

have been looking at the nosler load data and there are definitely some loads that can afford to lose some.

Pretty good numbers with RL33 and 180’s.

yes. Crazy fast. But beware- mine developed a hell of a carbon ring over time, and it came back quickly after cleaning. Caused very early pressure. I’ve moved on to VV N570 and hope to have some better luck.

I’ve read a couple of guys with my same experience where you need to clean the chamber/throat every 30 rounds.
