Keep us posted. Don't forget to try H4350 and perhaps even RE17.
I bought H4831sc, H4350 and RE17 to try in mine, but I have a feeling the RE17 won't be temp stable enough for me. It's generally regarded as the speed king for this caliber though. </div></div>
I have thought H4350 would be a candidate for this rifle but I can not find any data on this powder for the 139 SST. I have some on hand to try if I can find load data for it. RE17 is not in my inventory and Im trying to decide between buying the RE17 or Vihtavuori N150 which looks like it may be the ticket as well. </div></div>
This is EXACTLY why everyone always advises to have as many loading manuals as possible! Sometimes you just gotta read between the lines and take a (well) educated guess, knowing that:
Heavier bullets = less powder
Longer bearing surface = less powder
Less bullet jump = less powder
Not being snarky at all, I just want to tag this response to explain to newbies why they need 10 loading manuals! Gives you more data points to go from so you can make (WELL) educated guesses in your loading.
If no one else jumps in first, I'll take a look through my manuals tonight and give you *my* best guess, which you are welcome to try or tell me to get bent. My "shoot from the hip" guess is that you won't be able to get enough H4350 in the case and still seat that SST to go overpressure....but prudence is of course, a good thing. </div></div>
No problems from me Turbo! I am not a newbie but great advice for those that are new to reloading and a good reminder to those which are. Plenty of manuals on the bench just no data for a particular powder in the Hornady manual for the 139 SST, and if I can help it I like not to guess and would rather work off of printed load data.
Boiler, thanks for the link. I forgot to check Hogdons site for the info, only problem is my rifle is short action and I can't seat any longer than 2.80 OAL. I hate to go single loading on a hunting rifle. It looks as if I'm beating a dead horse with the SST. I am getting MOA with 42.3 of Varget so if I decide to use the SST I will settle on the Varget Load with the 2600'ish velocities.
