Hey guys, I thought I would share this quick video I threw together. This is from the second day of the 2013 gun season in Wisconsin, Columbia County. I have only gotten into long range shooting for the past two years as I mainly focus on bow hunting, so this is my longest shot to date. While hunting this property I am able to take a maximum range shot of about 600 yards, which is the furthest I have ever practiced with my .308. I was using my Remington 700 chambered in .300 win mag with Federal Vital Shok 180 grain Nosler Partitions and a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 FFP. I only had time to shoot this rifle prior to the gun season at 100 yards so I was a bit nervous trusting the factory specs I had calculated for the bullet drop. I lazed the brush next to the deer at 282 yards and dialed up 1 mil on my scope and held on the shoulder and let one rip. The bullet entered a hair high on the left shoulder and exited the opposite side towards the lower part of the neck. Once we went out to recover the deer I lazed my elevated hunting shack at 291 yards. As you can see in the video the deer was DRT. This is the first animal I have taken with this rifle and am very pleased with its performance. I am looking forward to practicing and longer ranges with this rifle in preparation for my mule deer hunt in Idaho in 2014. I am going to head back out the hunting shack this afternoon so I will try to remember to take a picture of the rifle and add it with this post. Let me know what you think. I know I should have zoomed all the way back out after the shot but I was caught up in the moment and my buddy who was with me had already turned the camera towards me before figuring out the zoom button.
