I would have told that guy holding the radio to go on the other side of the roof if you going to have that big ass antenna swinging in the breeze.:~)
Even the smaller radio's put out watts and not good for long exposure. The bigger VHF/UHF will fry you if you grab the antennas. Sorta like cooking in a microwave.
