Rifle Scopes 3-15 or 4-16 FFP Optic Options Sub $1k

Decided to put something together now I need some glass. Not a primary use rifle, probably ring a little steel and backup loaner for some hunting. Looking at another sig T4, XTR II, PST II, and Nikon FX1000 Black or whatever. Not real picky on reticle and I know what kind of glass I get with my budget. Thanks.

I’m a fan of the 3-15 PST Gen 2. It’s a great option in that price range and that’s what I’d give the nod to.

Ilya, what’s your take on the Steiner? I thought I read you designed MRAD and MRAD-1 reticles for the Meopta? I’m a mil guy any reticle for the optika I should look hard at.

How far have you taken that scope out to before you felt it was lack of magnification?

Another vote for Steiner P4Xi. I have one that has bounced around on a 308 behind the seat of my pickup off and on for the last year. It has held up great to that abuse and haven’t had a single issue taking this rifle/optic combo to 1,500 yards. I also use it for low light predator control and it does very well for this. Feel of controls and Image quality is easily better than anything else I’ve tried thus far below $1,000.

I have had no issues seeing what I'm shooting at out to 600. But everything is proportional, if I'm setting up at 600 I typically shoot a 4"-10" steel hanger. I'd have issues if I was shooting 1" bullseye stickers at 600. For steel to ground hogs this mag is exceptional for me out to any range I can see in the fields around my house. I was watching deer last year at around 900 when I was shooting out to 300 yards. It stood out to me because they were just laying in the distance looking in my direction as I shot and didnt seem to care in a wide open chisel plowed field. Only issues I've had is when the mirage is bad, I have had no success in cutting through mirage regardless of what optic I'm using other than turning mag down or elevating my shooting position.
Personally, I've been very happy with my stiener optics for what I do with them. I have 2 T5Xi's and one p4xi, I also have a bushnell dmr 3-21 to me they are all comparable with no distinguishable differences optically.
I have been through numerous brands and mag ranges of scopes for various reasons. I find when I have an expensive scope (for me 3k~2k) sitting on a rifle I am compelled to selling it to get two 1.5k~1k scopes from the used section just to try something different, it's a hobby and release this for me.. But I'm very content with these stieners for varying reasons. The bushnell I'd move if they held any value in the used scope section and if it wasnt so beat up , not because of its performance optically in any way just to try something else that isnt as large and heavy for the rifles it seems to find itself on.

Have you looked at either the Bushnell LRTS 4.5-18x44 or DMR II 3.5-21x50? Both are under $1,000.00 and are made in Japan and are quality options

I have several PST Gen 2 3-15x44 scopes and I am thrilled with their features/price. If you are eligible for the LE/MIL discount it's an even better deal.

I must have have been confusing this model with another that has the donut reticle. The little bit of extra mag is nice. It’s also got the zero stop and 30mm which saving the weight is an added bonus. What’s the first hand experience with these?

I recently picked up one of the LRTS's from Doug. The LRHS had the donut reticle to aid in low light shooting for hunting. I have limited time behind the LRTS, but for the price you are getting a good value and it has a known reputation for dialing.

No one has mentioned the xtr2 3-15x scr-mil ... my #1 shooting buddy and I have been using these for 4 years ... and they still soldier on ...

I've had a couple of the old LRHSi scopes. Both the 3-12 and 4.5-18. The glass rivaled my Gen2 Razors. The LRTS should have the same image quality and be a great option for your backup hunting requirement. Really regret selling those scopes. @wade2big seems to like them as well.

I just started a thread on the Sig Tango 4, because I want something that is 20oz or less.... But if I wasnt looking to cut weight I'd buy an LRTS 4.5-18. An LRHSi is what's on the gun now and it punches above its price class IMO - either than or I just got a very good copy. My eyes are picky about glass... it bothers me a lot if a scope (or binos, spotters, etc) have good center clarity but are poor edge to edge. For the price point it's at, to get a LOW made scope with its feature set and glass is great, IMPO.
