Then I guess I'm just a little right about the length.

I thought it was shorter than that. Weight is 0.6oz less than the 4-16x50 PMII (but 1.6oz more than the 42mm version), now you can carry an extra Snickers bar.

.8oz if you own a 42mm, weight is the same if it's 50mm, but I think we are splitting hairs at this point.

basically its not worth selling a 4-16x50 but its also not worth buying one when the 3-20x50 is out unless you want the cheaper non illuminated one.

i really hope this 3-20x50 ends up being as good as i hope

I will keep my 4x16x42 PMII and buy the 3x20x50 PMII when all the kinks are worked out and availability is better as I always do. I am never the first one to buy for obvious reasons. I stopped being a guinea pig decades ago. Ya Im old.

I think it is a good idea to have a scope in reserve in case something happens to your primary.

If it had been designed like the 4-16x and 5-25x PMIIs, the 3-20x would be longer and heavier than it is and somewhere between them in size and weight - that's what makes it "compact."

If you already have a 4-16x, I see no compelling reason to sell it and buy the new 3-20x. If you need a new scope, the 3-20x would be the way to go.

What is the big thing about locking turrets? I think I would rather have a scope without the locking turrets. Unless I'am missing something.

If you're using a Horus reticle, you zero the scope and use the reticle for holdovers and windage, making needed adjustments only to the magnification. Locking turrets make sense in the this case since you don't want to touch the turrets if the scope remains zeroed.

However, they will be a pain in the arse if you dial every shot; the new locking mechanism gets in the way of turning the MTC turrets since the unlocked position is "up", leaving little room to grab the MTC knob at the top.

For people who carry their rifle around and shoot, sliding it in and out of a drag bag, scabbard, or just carrying it slung can unexpectedly move the turrets.

Premier is coming out with a new MTC turret knob that doesn't actually lock; instead, the top of the knob slips. To engage the knob, you simply pull up to make an adjustment, then push down to "relock". Current turrets can be retrofitted with the new slipping knob system without returning the scope to the factory.

I actually do need another scope, but it seems a bit overkill for an M14.

I agree, I handled one yesterday and wasn't a big fan of the new turrets. The 4-16/5-25 will live on.

Well i went for the 4-16x50 Precision Hunter

Got a deal at £995($1500) which is nearly HALF the price of the 3-20 and £650($1000) cheaper than the PMII 4-16.

i wont need target turrets and i wont need loads of elevation either since its only 223 hunting rifle. i even get the P3 FFP Mill dot reticle also. Same glass and S&B build quality as the PMII and i can always get target turrets added later if i really want them. 30mm tube saves me £125 on 34mm rings since i already got 30mm sets.

There is no tunneling on the 3-20 and the reticles look fine. The scope has a 50mm objective so the eye box is nice and big. I am going to be getting one when they come out in April.

That's what I was told at SHOT and they seemed pretty confident. I will be ordering one soon. Just need to figure out if I want the P4F or the H2CMR reticle in it.

I'm having the same dilemma Rob. I'm kind of leaning towards the H2CMR myself for the increased illumination and usability in the lower power range.

That's it and it looks better in person. The .2 mil marks on the horizontal will be nice for wind hold and movers as well as ranging. The .1 mil marks going from 2 to 3 mils on the vertical will help with ranging as well.

I was pretty impressed.

As to line thickness, I haven't seen it listed but from looking through it I think it's about the same as the Finn Accuracy MSR reticle which is a little thicker than the P4F but not as thick as the standard P4.

I will be getting an S&B with the MSR RET to try out soon I hope. The H2CMR is nice but I think I like the Kline more.
