Hunting & Fishing 30-06 180 grain factory hunting load?

Re: 30-06 180 grain factory hunting load?

I shoot federal fusion 180s for deer, haven't had one go more than 25 yards after the shot, good blood trails too. Shoots sub moa out of my tikka t3(1 and 11 twist) all day long, that is if your looking for factory ammo

Re: 30-06 180 grain factory hunting load?

I am very pleased with Hornady Custom and Superformance 139gr SST loads for my .280.

For .30-'06, I have always used Rem Express Core-Lokt 150's. I would only consider a 180 if distances were going to be pretty consistently at 200yd or greater. The types of terrain I hunt seldom provide shots like that, and there's no point to increasing the recoil with my relatively light M70. Even for Match shooting I don't use anything heavier than FGMM 168SMK.

Is this for Deer or for Elk? If it is for whitetail any softpoint 150gr and up will work as long as it is accurate enough in your gun. A 30-06 is not what I would consider to be a marginal deer gun. If it is for elk, I can't help you, I have never hunted them.

I've killed a truckload of deer in last 30yrs with Remington 180gr roundnose soft point corelokts. Most were with a Remington 7400 carbine. Now if your shooting across a clearcut, this ain't your rd. But 150yds and in they are the stuff! You know, really, it doesn't take a 3200fps rd pushing a .500BC bullet to kill a little ole deer.
