photo.JPGhi,
I'm new to this forum and was hoping for some help with load data for a 30-338 lapua mag.
I'm building a rifle in 30-338 lm and I can't find any data on it. the rifle is a wetherby vanguard action with a 28.5" shillen stainless steel barrel in an all aluminum stock which I machined. any help would be appreciated.

thanks keith

Hello,
I see that you have not gotten a reply, I guess not many people with 30-338 lm.
I would like to make this suggestion, look at data for 338-378 weatherby compared
to 30-378 weatherby, pick a powder, let say "Retumbo". In 338-378w for a 225 gr
bullet data for retumbo is 112.0 to119.0 grs. In 30-378 for a 220 gr bullet is 101.0
to 107.5 grs. Load data with retumbo for .338 lm with 225 gr bullet is 92 to 102.0grs.
So for 30-338lm I would reduce percentage wise the same to get a load for a 220 gr
bullet with retumbo. You could use same idea for other powders, error on safe side
and use a chronograph and look for pressure signs.

answer: 220 gr bullet, retumbo 83- to 90 grs.

thanks for the idea. I kinda did the same thing with 30 06 and a 270 and figured out a percentage. I've taken it apart to sent to get ceracoted and anodized hopefully get it back together in a couple weeks and try it out.

I have a 30/338 LM for my elk gun.
150 accubond
98.0 IMR 7828
3.62"
Now using
168 barnes TTSX
95.5 H1000
3.60"
You can also use 300RUM info as a start

Over at GeoVario LLC - Web Access there is a nice piece on " Loading for the 30-338 Lapua ". I personally have one that is a LR bench gun in a Sheehane Tracker stock with a sleved Rem 700 action and a 34" custom taper Lilja, 8oz.Jewell a set of RT-150 adjustable rings and a NF BR 8-32x56. It likes Retumbo powder and 230 HyBreds. Good advise to start with 300RUM loads.....My gun is quite a bit different than most so I am not easy about sharing powder loads. But Retumbo and the big 30's are a good match.

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while. I just got the barrel back and got it bedded. Shot it this evening and was very pleased with the results. Still need to work up a load. Today we were shooting 85 grains of retumbo with a 190 gr. Sierra bthp. Getting 3000 fps and less than 1/2 " group at 100 yards. Would like to get a little more speed if possible.

just a quick update. ended up switching to h-1000 powder 87.5g,190g sierra matchkings, 3200 fps. happy with that. got to go shoot long range finally shot a 4,6,8,1000yrds with sub moa at 4,6,800 and moa at 1000. very happy with that. can't wait to go shoot prairie dogs in june.
