Suppressors .30 cal, titanium, and QD............ Go!

Now that I finally have all of my suppressors, all of my friends want to get orders in as well. They are asking for my recommendations, but all of my research is two years old now.

These guys will all want one rifle can to do it all, from shooting on their 300 win bolt guns to their 243's and AR15's. So far, I've been able to come up with YHM and TBAC, and that's it.

Requirements are:
30 caliber capable
Titanium (or similar weight)
Quick Detach

I've got one and I'm in love with it, but I want to give these guys options. Also, the only reservation I have about the TBAC is the way the brake would look and sound on an AR when running unsuppressed. Anyone have any pics?

I've got the 30BA and it gets swapped (like twice) between my bolt and my 16" AR.
The brake is big and loud as hell on my AR...but I'll repeat what I read a lot when deciding on the can - the brake has a job to do and it does it effectively. Loud? yes. Big? yes. solid mounting point for a great can? yes.

I have 2 SAS cans the M-47 and Arbiter both TOMBs. I can a tests to the quality of the cans. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. I would expect the QDs to be the same quailty!

I don't know about how "intricate" the mount is, pretty much a 3-4 second operation if you're slow that can be done in the dark by a nutless monkey.

IMHO - QD (really QA) matches up best with SA platforms - which doesn't necessarily match up well with Ti.

Bolt gun = best single point Ti can

SA on a reasonable pace = OK with a single point

SA with ability to shoot mag fulls at a time = QD and non Ti

I guess it all depends on how hard you run a semi auto. With the firing schedules these guns will see, Ti is a non issue on the semi auto guns. Even though we're talking about AR15s, these are hunting rifles. They won't ever see hard use, with multiple mag dumps or carbine class round counts.

Full auto rated 7.62 cans are not required or desired for our application. Thank you for the post, though. Also, FYI, I agree with a lot of your thoughts, which is why personally, I run a FA rated stainless can on my 556 stuff.

I didn't mean to crap on your new can, I really do hear positive reaviews. I didn't mean difficult to remove or attach, I meant intricate or complicated. It looks to me like the can has moving parts inside of it to make the system work. I personally don't care for that, but in no way should that be read as a "that mounting system sucks" kind of statement. It's just a personal preference on the mount and the fact that the can is a little heavier than what I'm looking for.

I have a Ti YHM that I am waiting to get a stamp for. I plan on running it hard with little regard for it. I think the drawbacks of Ti are over-stated. I may be wrong, but that is the conclusion I've come to so far.

I have the YHM and love it. I don't run full auto or anything and I'm too old and poor to be impressed with mag dumps etc, so I haven't run it hard enough to really test it's durability. It is rated for limited full auto use and yes the blast baffle is inconel. The mount is not really any uglier nor as large as some of the others I've seen. Very simple and rugged mounting system, I found that tightening by hand and then backing off 1 click is the best way to prevent mine from seizing on the mount. The very slight "wiggle" of the suppressor seems to have no measurable effect on my accuracy nor sound level. (measured by my ears only) I had mine seize once and had to strap wrench it off-since I started running it "loose" I have had no more trouble and the locking system works very well to prevent it backing off. I always use a regular pencil to put a match mark on the suppressor when at the range-a simple glance confirms the suppressor is still as tight as I left it.

I also think the drawbacks of Ti are very overstated and only apply to those who shoot their suppressors until they glow orange.

Whatever you do don't get the AAC SDN-6. Sure some will say "mine is awesome" but they're 1 in 10,000. When A) Quality control sucks and B) the customer has to physically alter his device to make it work properly that is a no go. I had to shim the base of the brake to get it to lock up tight. Coupled with a few hundred rounds of carbon build up and it works well now but having to go through all of that while reading others who have Silencerco, TBAC, Archangel etc... that worked flawlessly out of the box is really a let down. I'm looking at the Specwar and TBAC right now for a dedicated .308.

I like Thunderbeast, but I have also become a fan of Templar Tactical's cans. My friend uses one, and it sounds pretty good even though it is short and light.

I have a Templar Tactical Archangel 30 cal magnum rated titanium from the group buy on here sitting at my dealer waiting for my form 4. I plan to run it on a few of my 308's both bolt and semi, mainly bolt but I also plan on running it on my 300blk and 5.56 ARs, if it works well without a lot of hassle. I want it mainly for hunting hogs and coyotes ( and deer as soon as the governor signs off on it) and range use, never plan on mag dumps. I went with the Archangel as a "do all" can as I plan on re-barreling my STW to 300WM when the time comes. I wish I had a review for you but I'm still waiting for the day I get to take it home. I'm interested to see if anyone posts in here that has one, also don't mind hearing others reviews since I have friends who will be interested in the same things as you.

I was that other user and I'd have to agree. The Archangel is pretty damn light, sounded the same as the 30BA (just to ear, not using any audio equipment) and that fact that it's user-serviceable is a pro to me.

While I don't think either fit into the QD category, I'd say both impress the hell out of me and my (amateur) ears.

I shot my SAS Ti Reaper on 3 of my DTA conversions this weekend - 308, 260 and 300 win. I have my 5.56 TOMB mounts being delivered today and will be testing it out on my 18" and 10.5" MRP soon.
