Has anyone tried CFE BLK in a 30 carbine? I know there is no published data, but the 300 BLK has load data in 100-115gr bullets, case capacity is very close, velocity is in the ballpark, and both gas operated.

I know it is slower burning than h110, but I have also broken several bolt ears and figure this might keep the beating down just a little.

Am I missing something?

I am concerned that you have broken several bolt ears. Have you checked the headspace? If not, my first recommendation is to get a set of GO/NOGO gauges. Are you running Type I, Type II or Type III (round) bolts. The round bolts were created to stop bolt breakage. I've never broken a bolt, even in my M2 Carbine, but I converted to round bolts in all my carbines that I shoot extensively.

To answer your question, however, H110 (under its original WWII WC820 designation) was developed specifically for the .30 Carbine. I would recommend sticking with it (or W296 although both now come off the same assembly line) or finding surplus WC820. I now use it exclusively, even for .357 Mag and .44 Mag.

I also recommend joining the CMP forum and reading the posts in the M1 Carbine sub-section. There are real experts there who contribute.

Good luck,

I use h110 but my platform is different from your carbine so I can push the limits of the case more. Breaking stuff while firing is never good. As @rg1911 says, somethin doesn’t sound right, maybe check your carbine out real good.

Guess I should have clarified, it has been checked by a smith and all was good with it. It is a Universal so only those parts fit it (with their crappy metallurgy) and after a few 100,000 rounds, things do wear out. The slide to bolt ear clearance had gotten excessive, so yes technically that part was out of spec, but all other parts checked out.

New bolt/slide was installed and everything checked by a smith. Just trying to think of a way to keep it going longer this time, but the barrel might be wore out by the next time.
