300 BLK/5.56 SBR rig: Noveske vs LWRC

I'm thinking about getting my first SBR, one that I'd like to have both an 300BLK upper and a 5.56 upper for suppressed shooting and carbine courses. I want one system instead of just buying these uppers separately and putting them on the AR lower I already have. Both uppers will be shot almost exclusively suppressed, and while I'd like a lighter titanium can for them, I figure that a SS/inconel would be better for shooting rounds in volume (especially the 5.56). That's brought me to my decision: should I order a Noveske with a 300BLK and 5.56 uppers (both DI), or a LWRC PDW (piston) with a 300BLK upper (DI).

Also, I'm leaning toward the AAC SR7 suppressor with the flash hider on both. I'm open to advice on this as well, but the can will be used exclusively on this rig, both uppers. Thanks for your input.

After reading all the posts on the hide for Noveske I jumped on one of their uppers in the group buy here on the forums. I went and looked at them at a local store and was really impressed with fit and finish on the Lo-Pro upper and looking at barrels of the Noveske and AAC, sealed it for me. That group buy has some damn good prices on Noveske too!

I have both Noveke and LWRC uppers sitting in my safe. The Noveske is a 12.5 in 6.8 and the LWRC is a 10.5 with an adjustable gas block. If you are going to be running these suppressed a lot I would definitely get an adjustable gas block to slow down the wear and tear on your rig.

Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to buy either a Noveske or LWRC upper again. I would warn against the 8.5 inch barrel though because most suppressor manufacturers will not warranty the can if something happens on that short of a barrel. Just something to consider. I have put around 500 rounds through a LWRC 6.8 PDW with one of my suppressors and it worked like a charm but they have a lot more pressure and they are a lot harder to quiet and cut down the flash.

Based off of my LWRC products and how they have performed.... I'd pick LWRC for this build.

However, for a spr role Noveske would get the edge on accuracy.

As chucky had stated... an adjustable gas block is a feature that I won't live without... No worrying of over gassing your AR and less abuse on parts.

Both Noveske and LWRC makes a bad ass SBR in 6.8, the 6.8 would be my choice for more performance than either the 300bo or 5.56.

You could also build a 6.8 using a Wilson Combat 11.3" or ARP 12.5", then add a adj gas block. I know those can be built cheaper too.

Are the SR-7s even in production yet? The SR-7 seems to have the same guts as the SD-6, but with AACs new 90t mounting systems.
I would give serious consideration to getting a suppressor from a dealer that has it in stock.

I have both LWRC 6.8mm M6A2, two Noveske's, 12.5 223 with Switchblock and a 10.5" Noveske 6.8mm which I use for hunting. Since the 6.8mm's are more expensive to shoot so I normally always take the 223 Noveske with me to the range. They are both fine rifles but I do tend to go with the Noveske more. If I had a 223 LWRC I am sure I would take it to the range more often than the 6.8mm. I say you can;t go wrong with either one.

Since you're looking DI either way, go with the LWRC. Their barrels alone are reason to go with them, kicks the crap out of everyone else.

Just look up the benefits of a piston design when considering SBR and Suppressor use. This is when that system truly shines.

Piston guns get plenty dirty suppressed. Not as much as DI but they are not perfect. A DI gun will need to get lubed more but they also run reliably and usually have less of a POI shift then a piston. Piston guns get dirty from the gas coming back through the chamber FYI.

If you sbr form 1 your current lower and buy uppers you can save a LOT of money. And take possession of the uppers immediately, as long as they are stored in a different area of the house and no rifle lowers are close by.

I know you said you wanted a complete system, but its gonna run you quite a bit more bread. Just look at noveskes site, upper only is at least $400-$600 cheaper. If you want to pay that much for a lower, more power to ya, but just let me know what your stock tips are....lololol. FWIW I do like the gen II lowers, but can't justify double to triple the price for a flared magwell.

Or DI with a switchblock and coated BCG. Then u have best of both. I'd go Noveske, best bbl as well, but I'm in the DI camp. Were I to go piston, it would be SCAR first, then lmt.

+1 on Noveske. I got a factory Sabre Defence SBR in 5.56 with 11" barrel and build a 10" 300 blk with Noveske barrel. I like the DI system due to the fact that it's quieter when suppress and imho I get better accuracy with DI system.

It's wearing a US Optics SN-4 1.5-6x in an ADM recon mount.

Found a SDN6 local today too so it'll soon be wearing that as well!


AFAIK AAC allows down to 7" for 300blk and still under warranty.

I'm leaning toward the Noveske right now, though the PDW upper for the LWRC is really nice too. Admittedly, I think I'd be happy either way. I'll be back in the States in a few weeks and will make the final call then. I've emailed around and haven't been able to find the SR7 in stock, so I may just settle for a plain jane 7.62 AAC of some sort. While I know I could just get an upper, I also like having the complete build for the resale value.
