300 NM in in 308 Barrel

Scenario: I want a Sako M10 but they dont do 300 NM barrels.

However, 300NM uses .308 bullets so if I get someone to rechamber a 308 barrel, would It work just fine or what am I missing?

Not familiar: does the M10 have an interchangable botlface? Sure doesn't look like it.

The "standard" boltface for ".308" is about .480"... Norma is probably 0.595".

It can obviously be configured to use NM, since it will also take the .338 Lapua (same head and OAL), but buying a .308 ain't gonna do it.

I think the only issue would be getting the existing barrel extension off. If it did come off without damage, you could rechamber a 308 barrel, or start from a blank to make the Norma.

Can you buy the .338 lm bolt by itself?

I’m assuming you’d go out and buy the .338 bolt, not alter the .308 bolt.

Do you own the rifle yet? If so, take a bunch of detailed pictures of the barrel extension and bolt, and move this over to the gunsmith section.

No. I was just thinking about getting one in the near future if 300 NM was an option.
