Looking at my next build or two, I was considering a 300 Norma. Theres some very intriguing info out there on it but wanted to hear some pros and cons from the hide members. Thanks for the input.

Only downside to me is cost. It eats lots of powder, and Norma brass isn't cheap (nor does it last very long). But everything you have read about the performance is true. Don't buy a Corvette expecting great gas mileage.

I get mid 20's in my ZO6 cruising. Now on the track low single digits is easy on the way to 140 MPH.

I still like the 30-375 Ruger .Which you'll probably be hearing more about. 80% of the performance with 60% of the cost of a 300 Norma.

I really like my norma build, it's a laser but I want a 300WM to run 215s to plink with because no ranges around here will let me run the norma. I think it's an excellent cartridge to build a lightweight long range hunting gun off with a decent brake, it'll last a long time if you're only getting out to hunt a few times a year. I have plans to do a build like this in the near future.

Also, does anyone know if the Berger 245s for .30 cal are actually going to become a thing? Or was that all just interwebs rumours?

I'm waiting on a barrel blank to arrive so I can build mine. Just wanted to add that Peterson will be releasing 300 and 338 norma brass in about 6 months. Any concerns about primer pockets going away early on the norma brass should be resolved by Peterson.

If Peterson shows up with Lapua quality brass for a reasonable price it will be a game changer. I signed up to be an eval shooter for the 300NM brass but I haven't heard anything yet. I am tossing Norma brass after about three shots due to loose primer pockets, but admittedly my loads are pretty hot.

They already did it with .338 LM brass. Much much stronger than Lapua brand.

I built a number of barrels for the Desert Tactical rifles and the owners love the round. Good points are accuracy, lower recoil than the 338 Lapua and slightly cheaper bullets. Bad points are brass availablity right now. According to my customers who shoot a lot it will do anything the 300 WM will but better and it will do things the WM won't.
