Back in Feb, I bought a couple RMEF raffle tickets from a neighbor at a trade show. He’s a great guy and is a sponsored BBQ champ that feeds us lunch and beers everyday of the show. I’ve never won shit in a raffle but figured it was for a good cause. Drawing was supposed to be in March, I forgot about it. I guess it got postponed. Fast forward to April and it was my bosses birthday. We lost him a little over a year ago, much too young, to a brain tumor. I’ve worked for the man since I was 17 and he was more like a father/mentor. Probably had more of an impact on who I am today than my folks. I was feeling pretty blue when I got the call that I’d won the gun. I’m not particularly religious but I think it was his way of telling me to buck the fuck up.

Took 15 hours on the road to pick up but I turned it into a work trip.

I’d spec it differently (cartridge, a better scope, TT Diamond flatty, and make it mag fed) but pretty damn good for a $40 investment. Going to love it, as is, for sentimental reasons, and try to take it on a hunt, sooner rather than later.

The builder claims they broke in the barrel, sighted it in, and worked up a load. They included 80 rounds of that load and the data. Please critique the load.

Now it’s time for this, to celebrate.

Congrats, that is one hell of a ROI. A lot of guys would sell their wives or left nut for some Hornady ammo and you got some custom loads with R26 and Lapua brass on top of a pretty badass rifle.

A suggestion if I may, considering the state of the world today: find a young man to mentor and continue that tradition. Maybe even incorporate the rifle/hunting somehow. I think that would be a nice way to honor his memory.
