Ok All, Here it is. 700 custom with 26" Bartlein CM #9 heavy varmint contour, 1-10" twist 5R rifling. Crane Navel Warfare tactical match chamber, (the same chamber that the XM 2010 has).
I want to use the 208gr. Hornady AMAX with H1000 powder and Remington cases. Any thoughts on loads. Hogdgon doesnt have loads for 208 or 210gr. bullets. Any Thoughts? Thanks.

208 amax, wlrm primers, .025" jump to lands. 76.4 h1000
210 vld. "". Kissing the lands, 76.2 h1000.
Get a lee collet die and run threw as your final brass prep besides priming. This is my technique with virgin brass. As for once fired brass. Fl resize trim to 2.610" deburr Chamfer then run through collet die 3 times turning your case each time. Prime and load em up. You'll have to find your ocw for yourself but this is a start

I run 75 grains h1000 at 2.610 and make tiny little holes

I'm "just starting " my loads, for the 300. Ran 100 of H1000-75 grains,and a 208 AMAX, and had flattened primers and 1.5 in groups, at 100, for my TRG. I'm going back to the beginning. I thought I could use "others" loads. Not so much. And that COL? I'm at 3.5 +/-.

That's very odd. 76.2 is max. Maybe a hot lot ? Something is definetly wrong. Were you in the lands. ?? Ejector marks?

I thought it odd, too. Thought the TRG might take a "heavier" load, and be OK. The 208's are 2.927, at the ogive, to the lands. Held 'em "way" back to 2.76, to start, on the 1st 100. Just wanted to have some thing to shoot, for the day, and get a "feel" for the gun. Flattened primers. Yeah, I'm scratchin my head. Here we go, with a full work up. That's a good thought, on the powder. Got 4 lbs. I'll try a different lot, next session.

I've seen a lot of lot-lot differences in H1000. 1lb jugs were driving me nuts. If you decide to stick with it, buy in 8lb jugs.

Thanks for that bit of info. A lot of guys seem to use the H1000. Most "suggested" loads use it. I may have found another bug. I used the Federal 215 Mag. primers, on the first lot. I know this is old school but it works really well. Try a 190 smk over 72.7 of RL-22' with a standard 210 or 210m primer at 3.34 oal or so. Very accurate load

Thanks for that. My "problem", is that I bought from Midway. Bulk. Got 1000 168's, for the 308. and 1000 180's, and 750 208's for the 300. RL-22 would be my next choice, in powders. But I've got 4 lbs H1000. Thanks for the load data. I LOVE "OLD SCHOOL"!!!!!I should have been born, in the 30's. Will write that load down, for the future.

Wierd. I just shot some loads to try and find the "pressure spike".(first signs on primer and base that say the pressures are getting too high i.e. flat primer) I got the 208 amax touching the lands and went from 76.5 to 77.5gr of H1000 in 1/10 grain increments. On the hottest load i saw no signs in the base or primer saying that the pressures are getting to high. Wierd. My C.O.L. is 3.608" from base to tip of bullet.

I've been using 75.0-grains of H1000 / Fed 215M primers / Federal brass with the 208 AMax loaded to a 3.60 OAL. This load is giving me 2850-fps out of a 26" Schneider P-5 barrel. Some may consider this a mild load, but works great for me. Able to keep my eye on target for hits, and it's a pleasure to shoot. I tried everything between 74 and 76-grains, and different OAL, and this happens to be my best load for accuracy. One note; I bought some primed Federal brass, and was getting flattened primers, and ran this primed brass in two comps and was seeing vertical stringing. At first I thought it was my scope, but as soon as I went with different brass, my problems went away. Good thing I only bought 300-pcs of that problem primed brass.

I'm at 78.5 gr H1000 under 208 AMAX, WW brass, CCI magnum primers, .035" off lands.

It's hot and is definitely not a starting load, but my primers are only a little flat, no cratering, no hard bolt lift. It's a factory 700P. Velocity is about 2950fps. So I guess it's a slow barrel as others are able to achieve over 3000fps with a couple grains less powder.

Accuracy is 1/2 - 3/4 MOA.

I too have had good luck with the 180's and 190's. Seems to me like you have to get a long way out there to really enjoy the benefits of the 208 grainers.

I shoot 71.7 of H1000 with 208 Amax, averaging 2671fps with great accuracy, and great case life. heavier loads didn't give me any improvement in accuracy.

Check out the reloading depot for .300 WM loads. Theres quite a few different ones posted for the 208 amax. I just added some data today from my last couple trips to the range. I'm in the same boat as you. I want to use the 208s, but i also tested the 190s and so far the 190s are winning out (i've just tested to 100 yds). I can't get out of town for a few more weeks to test at longer ranges.

I found a good combo the other day with 215 Bergers. I'm using RP brass with 77.6 grains of retumbo and a 215M primer with a 215 hybrid touching the lands. Ave velocity is 2940 in a 26" Rem 5r. After initial development I had no problem popping milk jugs at 540 in crosswinds gusting up to 15 mph.

I'm using a 24 inch stainless 5R Obermeyer 1-11 twist (measured from front of the recoil lug. McMillan prepared Remington 700 action, McMillan stock

Winchester brass
Federal 215M primer
Sierra 190 Match king, or 185 grain Lapua Scenar
68.5 of IMR 4350
Either bullet seated 12 thousandths off the lands



Velocity is 2960 when temperature is 65F or less..This load is pretty stable until temperatures get over about 75F, then I don't use it. The powder it pretty temperature sensitive, and I found sticky bolt lift, and velocity over 3050 fps, so I quit shooting the loads, and save them for fall, winter, early spring shooting.

My rifle likes this load with either bullet..it REALLY likes this load, but I'm going to change to H1000 powder as I would enjoy shooting the rifle when it is hot outside too.

I have kept this quotation in mind ever since the first time I saw it: "Excess pressure will always find a way out. It is rarely cheap, fun, or safe when it does find it's way out."

Thanks to all who have shared so far. I have tried 76.0 H1000 for 208 AMAX so far with mixed results. I have had great results, however, with 73.5 RL-25 with 210 Berger VLD's at 3.675" OAL (I think I'm just kissing the lands). It's a consistent 1/4 MOA load.

I really like AMAX's so I might load down with H1000 as others suggest here.

Amax beats the bergers in my rifle hands down. 11" group on target @ 1202 yards. Bergers are AWSOME so don't think I'm degrading them but the amaxs are cheaper and a hell of ALOT easier to find your seating depth. like I said big fan of bergers!! But $$$$ and jump tolerance tells my wallet to save the bergers for hunting season.

Try a CCI or harder primer and see if you have that problem. My Rem700 Sendero in 300WM. Was using Fed215M primers and no matter the charge I flattened everyone of them. From light to not light. Started using CCI primers and not so flat.

Even bought a box of factory Hornady 195BTHP when breaking in. Primers flattened almost flush with case head. But no issues with bolt lift, ejector swipe or other indicators.

I know many have excellent results with H1000 in the 300WM but in my rifles it will not touch Retumbo & Magpro with bullet weights of 180 to 208.
I just bought 16 lbs of Magpro and have no regrets using it in belt mags of several flavors.

just finished working up loads for BOTH 208 and Berger 230
Rifle = 26", 1:10 twist,
Atmos: temp 45F, 26.83" HG, alt = 3250', DA 3100'

I did a full factor test with 2 randomized replications of the test (54 shots total for each bullet)
Factors checked:
CCI vs Fed 215M primers,
seating depth (.020, .03, .04"),
71-71.4 gr H4381 fr the 230
74.4-75.2 gr H1000 for the 208 AMAX.

I was able to find these loads

208 AMAX, 75.2 gr H1000, MV = 2920 fps,
average 3-shot group size .319"
230 gr OTM Berger, 71.2 gr H4381, MV 2880 fs.
average 3-shot group size .358"

If you like Magpro you should try Ramshot Magnum. Not sure if you know but they are both owned by same company and Scott Ziebarth that works there told me that Magnum will give you same speed as Magpro and even more temperature stable. But i agree i got almost 100ftps more velocity with Magpro out of my 300wm compared to H1000 with 208 and 225 pills.

I have heard good things about H1000 w/ the 208Amax. The Amaxs are not on Hodgon's online data guide so would 72gr be a good starting charge and go up in .5gr increments, say 5rds of each increment?

Also... I plan to use Winchester brass and CCI LR primers. My barrel is going to be a Rock Creek AMU/MTU contour 26" with brake.
Not sure what twist to go with, 1:10 should be good for the 208s probably...
