what are some of the better brakes for magnums like 300 win mag, how much do thay reduce recoil ?

The Badger Thrusters work well, like fat bastards, hollands, FTE, etc, etc. First question is: will you ever shoot prone and then go from there. And yes, they are worth it

some prone, not a lot. shot a trg in 300 win mag , recoil was not , but that was a trg

First brake I ever got was for my Rem 700 XCR LRT 300 Win Mag cause I couldnt shoot it more than 5 times before I was flinching and I am by no means a little or wimpy, the rifle is rather light and kicked a good deal. I got a Shrewd brake that directs left and right, and it reduced recoil to that of my 308, but the volume increase was outstanding, it was amazingly loud all around with the brake and it definitly took alot of getting used to, but on some rifles I really think a brake is needed, 300WM is one of them... Figure out what can work on your rifle and what you like. If you are shooting prone, only get one that directs left and right so you dont send gasses directly into the ground.

JP Tank Brake. Works extremely well. Best brake for recoil reduction I have come across. Looks like hell. LOUD as hell (louder than most other brakes).

KDF makes an outstanding break that brings the recoil of a 300wim mag down to about that of a 243 win. It is LOUD and not much fun to shoot next to (ask me how I know), but it works. I wear muffs and plugs as a point of course when on the range and that is sufficient. I would not want to shoot it with no hearing protection, however.

i run the SF 762-211c on all of mine. I do this for a couple of reasons. one they are nice breaks by themselves. They are probably not the best stand alone break option but they work well and are ported in the right directions for prone. Then I also run a can on them from time to time and they are quick detatch. I would say the recoil is similar to the 308. I run hot fast loads with 208 and 210 booolits also.

I got a Vais custom made, three day turnaround. Shot over 100 rds in one day out of my 300 win. No worries Less noticeable than my 308 with similar barrel and stock. Tough on those next to you though.

I'm hearing good things about the JEC muzzle brake. Google it and see what you think. I have two on order, one of which is going on my 300WM.

Run little bastards from APA on all of mine. Work well and look nice, makes shooting bigger calibers very enjoyable.

I put a Badger FTE brake on my Rem 700 300 wsm. My teenage son shoots it painlessly.

I have a jp brake on a 338 lapua, sounds like a bomb going off but sure works well to tame recoil

I have a APA Fat Bastard on my 300WM. Awesome brake! It recoils less than a 308. The noise isn't a problem for me with only foam earplugs.

I'm waiting for my Roedale brake to come in, I have used the Vias, FTE, and Thruster before, so I'm curious how this one will work out.

I had Ahlmans put one of their breaks on a 338WM, felt like a 243 when they were done. However, it was stupid loud.

I use ross's brakes and his buddy at muzzelbrakesandmore.com same brake just four and five port and they work great. I have had them on 22-6mm ai, 7-270 wsm, 280 ai, 338 rum, and now I'm putting one on my 338 Lapua IMP and love them.
