300 Win Mag switching brass brand

I just picked up my Savage HS 300 win mag a few weeks ago. The rifle has shot MOA with every load I have ran and was showing a real preference for H4831SC until I tried another attempt with H1000. It shot a .3 @100 for five shots with:
77.0 H1000
Hornady 208 HPBT
3.485 oal
GM210M
Rem brass

My issue that I only had a few pcs of Rem brass and I have 150 pcs of Federal brass inbound. I plan on backing the charge down a bit with the Fed and work back to the above results. The above load is below max by Hogdons data but it is a handful but shows no pressure signs in the Remmy brass. Give me your thoughts on this please.

Your question is, as I understand it, is reloaded Remmy brass stronger than factory new Federal brass?

I'll break out the Hornady book later, but where does your 77 gr fall on the load table? You say below max, but how far off max?

I shoot 300WM (with 208s) but don't run H1000. My rifles have all liked heavies moving fast.

Always best to back down a bit when you change any component, make sure all the new parts play as nicely as the old parts did.

My Hornady manual says 78.0 is max.

Case capacity would change between different brass makers so I would back-off and work up to make sure everything is still good. 208 A-Max and 77grs of H1000 with BHA Match brass works very well in my rifle.

Fed 210M? Why not a magnum primer?

That is correct 78.0 is the listed max. Both of you are on the same mind track as I am as far as backing off and working back up with a component change.
As far as the primer question, I do not typically shoot in sub zero temps and I have alot of the said primers on hand. In the current market with componets hard to come by I am using what I have but always searching for other needed components just like everyone else.

I'm having this same issue right now. I found a great load with H4831 and the Sierra 190 BTHP using Hornady brass. The primer pockets are getting loose, so I purchased Winchester new brass and prepped them. I backed off the load and tried to work back up. I can't quite get back to the accuracy I had before. I'm thinking that the neck tension from the different thickness in brass brands is the culprit. I have only been reloading for a short time, so I am not an expert by any means. I will try different primers also.

I recall another thread where someone said that Federal brass usually benefits from annealing right from the start. And in 300WM I would think this to be especially true. Just some things to think about.

If you aren't doing so, use OCW to work back up to make sure that load you found isn't a false node. And of course, always watch for pressure signs. Good luck!

Loaded some Feds tonight with a reduced charge of the H1000. This is tough for me to have to do. I shot another five round group this morn with the Remmy brass and it was the closest to perfect one hole group I have ever shot!! Tomorrow morning I guess I will find out if the Fed brass will achieve the same accuracy. As far as primers, I see no reason at this point to use a mag primer with the across the board results I am achieving with each of the loads and powders I have tried so far.
Thanks guys for the replies, I have hand loaded for years but this is the first time for the win mag. Always helpful to have a forum to discuss these sort of things and confirm that we are all on the same page.

Finally made the range today and ran the load in the rem brass, 6.6 mils to 1040 with excellent results. Still waiting on the fed brass. So far worked a load up to 76.5 and good results in what few feds I have, not quite what Im looking for but I can live with it. Still playing.

I get my Norma brass from Huntington or midway. Nosler also makes quality brass. I've heard that Norma makes brass for nosler and it's is sorted by weight to be more consistent.

I use norma also, 78.1 of h1000 gets me 2950.
