.300 Win Mags - Where are they?

I don't see many 300 win mags on here or for sale.

I was thinking about getting one with a brake as my first jump into the long range tactical market.

What am I missing? SHould I be looking elsewhere for 'better than 308' ballistics?

I picked up a 700P recently and am very pleased with it. It is a .75moa factory gun. It is getting a brake, bolt knob. I have a stock pack and a Harris bipod on the way. I am going to work up a load for it next. I love it! Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I wanted a 338LM also until I stumbled across my 300. It has really impressed me, I didn't know how accurate they are. My 338 project is definitely on hold.

I love my .300 Win Mag - Shoots like a laser to 1500 when I do my part. I looked initially at acquiring a .338 Lapua until I came across the Crane .300 Win Mag DODIC presentation and realized I can obtain my goals w/ a .300 while saving a boat load of money on ammunition...I guess Crane / NAVSEA came to the same conclusion as evidenced by the .300 Win Mags recently placed into service.

I agree why would anyone sell their .300 Mag. Might be the best cartridge ever made. It can take any game in North America. It can shoot out to a mile with great accuracy. Way cheaper to reload than the big .338's .375's ect. Ammo available at McDonalds, well practically. Just a great all around .30 cal cartridge with plenty of whoop-ass.

Got a Remington 700 .300 WM 5R in a PDC Customs Folder Chassis. Puts a BIG SMILE on my Face Everytime I Pull that Trigger and Feel the Horse Power on my Shoulder! There's a Very Good Article on the Latest Issue of the Sniper Magazine that talks about the Advantages of .300 over the .338 Lapua Magnums.

I know many will frown upon this, but the .300 WM still has A Lot More to offer to the every day shooter/hunters.

I have calculated my cost to load 300 win at .75 and 338 lapua at .95 so not really that much difference - the main factor was poor brass life on the win mag

So true. Bought a Rem XCR 300 Win Mag not to long ago. Put a couple of boxes through it and I couldn't get the smile off my face. Neither could my friend/coworker that was with me for the first time.

I thought I saw a couple on the Sale forum. Mine stays close. I read about "people" that don't like the recoil. I love it. Kind of like startin up an old Hemi. Horsepower! My next favorite is my 45-70, with a slight hot load. Almost a 458, but not quite. 300 grains goin down range. It'll stop a train. Well, almost.

.300 WM to Magnum Calibers is what .243 Win is to Short Action Calibers. Both are Haul Ass Barrel Burners and hella FUN To Shoot! But IMO the short Barrel Life is Well worth the Long Range Accuracy/Performance you get out of it. When the barrel goes out it just give you more of a Reason to get a Better Barrel and Further Upgrade the Rifle!

That depends, if you know or have a good Smith near you then it would technically be feasible. Although, I'd make sure he checks the Barrel Bore to make sure it's worth doing so. Your round count for a new barrel is say 1,500 rounds. You spend the Money say $300 to get it installed, then come 1,000 round mark you spend another $300 to get it taken off, cut rechamber then put back on but only get half the amount of Barrel life left, and probably less than that. So you just spent double the amount of Gunsmithing on a single barrel.

I would only do this if the Barrel is Top Quality and Truely worth this kind of trouble. But then again, I don't have a good smith in my area so I'll have to send my rifle off and wait for couple of months or even longer just to get it back with an recut old barrel on it. For me it's not worth the trouble or the extra expense, but to each of his own I guess.

I don't know where you guys are getting 1000-1500rd for barrel life, several of my friends shooting this caliber have surprassed 2500rd with theirs, one of them recently pulled his barrel after 3583 carefully documented rounds. It had grown to a bit over 3/4MOA when he tossed the tube.

H1000 is much nicer to barrels than RL22 or RL25 can be, I will be sorely disappointed if I only get 1000rd out of my current barrel.

1. HS Precision -> stainless Rem. action, HS Precision stainless 25" fluted barrel and M24 style stock

2. Browning A-Bolt -> Stainless Stalker W/ black Teflon-like coating and BOSS muzzle brake & optional solid BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System. It adjusts barrel harmonics to almost any load for max accuracy. GOOD factory loads will shoot 1/2" MOA)
Two stocks: standard "plastic" stock and Browning laminated thumbhole. Both W/ pillars and custom bedding.

I'd sell the HS Precision rifle B/C I'm getting a DTA with .300 win mag and 338 Lapua (or 338 Norma)
