for those of you who have taken the 22lr out to 300 or more yards.

today is the first time if shot for groups at 300 yards. im useing a suppressed cz 452 varmint with wolf match target ammo and a pst 4-16ffp scope.

my groups were horibable. my windage spread was 2.5 inches (pretty good) but my vertical was about 15 inches. this is on a 10 shot group. should i be looking for more consistant ammo or is this pretty much par for the cource. the wolf groups great at 100 yards but i've never shoot groups any further with my rimfire until today and i was very unhappy

no thats the next step. since the ammo was sub moa @ 100 i figured there was no need to chrono it. obviously i was wrong

Re: 300 yard 22lr groups (question)

427, I have shot my 40X, 28" heavy bbl, with USO 1.8-10 with mildot, out to 400yds with Wolf match ammo. The wind was about 3-4mph IIRC from right to left and was blowing my shots all around. I was having to aim about a .5 mil off the right top corner/shoulder. I did manage to get a couple decent 4 shot groups each about 3-5", considering I was behind the rifle I was happy for my first time out past 100yds witha .22lr.

But to answer your question about the ammo, I would chrono it if you can to see if you batch has a largish spread in velocity. And it cant hurt to see if any other ammo would perform better. I lucked out with my rifle, in that the previous owner told me that it shot the Wolf MT ammo the best out of what he had tried out of it over the years he had it.

And at that distance with a 10X scope you better have a good spotter, props to Pimp_skittles and his spotter 60.

Re: 300 yard 22lr groups (question)

Wolf MT works great for me out to 200, but beyond that it just doesn't hold together. SD for Wolf MT out of my Annie 64 MPR was about 10.

For me to shoot consistently at 300 I needed an ammo that has a SD of 6 or less. Try other ammos till you find one that will give you a SD of 6 or better.

25 shot groups at 300 yard groups with bipod and no rear rest.

Good luck and welcome to the rimfire "Way out There" fun.

Re: 300 yard 22lr groups (question)

I get my new vortex scope and dip 25moa base this week and I'll get some pics of my TR @282yds hopefully decent enough to post. I hit consistently on a 10in round swinging plate target on the bottom or a 5x8 square plate on the top as it is now

now that you mentioned is the wind was a little gusty from my 7 oclock. i guess that could have affected my elevation a little. thanks
