308 - 150/155/165gr speeds in 20-22" bbls ???

Re: 308 - 150/155/165gr speeds in 20-22" bbls ???

Hi John,

Thanks sir, never ran one, just wondering, seen many #s and know alot of folks run longer tubes so harder to find data for shorter sporter bbls.

So figuring 'high' would that be 2850+, 2750+ and 2650+?

Sounds like you have run them a bit yourself, and know you run a 260 now. Do you find field results similar?

Those were velocities I aimed for with my 22" Krieger. I could actually get a little more (2930ish w/ 150s), but some of those loads were probably a little warm. Check out the .308 loads here in the reloading section and on the Campfire. CTSmith shoots a 20" .308. You might want to PM him too.

I have been shooting some of SouthWest Ammo's 155 grain load. They are averaging 2887fps out of my 22" barrel.

i know off the shelf Federal 168gn SMKs run an average of 2525fps out of my Remington 700 AAC-SD. Same bullets average about 11fps faster out of my cousins rifle (same make and model except i have an AAC brake and he runs a JP).

not exactly what you were asking but those are the only numbers we have as far as 175 and bellow go.

next week we will be shooting some hand loads we made. ill be sure to post all the data we have at that time.

also we use a Magnetospeed Chrono.

edit: lots of spelling issues so i tried to fix them. its what happens when your doped up on NyQuil and using your iPhone hoping to beat the bug so you can go hunting lol

Re: 308 - 150/155/165gr speeds in 20-22" bbls ???

Thanks all guys, for alot of hunters who don't need reach beyond 300-400 yds, it seems a 130 Barnes, or various 150-165s are plenty for killing most game in North America.

They hit pretty decent speeds in 22" or so guns.

Thanks John and all, I did look a little, but did not find the thread before posting.

Have a great week ahead all.

Re: 308 - 150/155/165gr speeds in 20-22" bbls ???

With a 23" Bartlein barrel, I'm getting the following:

2,933 fps at 71 degrees F, Corbon factory 155 Scenar

2,914 fps at 71 degrees F, Southwest loaded 155 Scenar

Both loads show no pressure issues and are very accurate.
