308/168SMK/Varget

I'm shooting 168 nosler CC out of my stock rem 700 varmint, hs stocked. When loaded to coal 2.810, the ogive is still .2 from the lands. I've got over 1 k rounds with the 168. I've been playing coal and it shot the best at magazine length. With my rifle the first 1k I was keeping the charge between 41.5 and 43 for 200 yard groups. Just this past week loaded up 6 RDS each charged from 43,5 to 45 grns in .5 grain intervals. The 44.5 shot .6 moa @ 200. Going to verify results I loaded 44 to 45.5 for this Wednesday.

Had you done an OCW, you might have saved ~976 rounds :)

OP: In a similar vein, I'd suggest buying a box of factory FGMM (168gr SMK, IMR4064 @ 42.7gr IIRC) and shoot it in groups to get an accuracy base line for your rifle and you (0.75"/.26 moa at 200yds from my CZ750). Then run an OCW using 168gr SMK and your Varget.

Or just run an OCW.

IMO it'll work better and quicker than trying what works in our rifles. It's fun too :)

I have already done this and I have a fantastic load with 42.5 GRS of 4064.I have plenty of varget on hand and just haven't hit that sweet spot yet.I just thought I would get some idea's from what others have found to be good loads.
