Re: 308 & 300 rum help please

So your 308 is not getting you the distance and the 300 rum won't group with every type of powder you have tried? Give us more info and I'm sure someone on this site can give you some advice...
First off. If you can take photos of your rifles and post them on here it will help. If you can't do this, I am sure you can find a teenager that can assist you.
Second: what bullets are you using? They may be the wrong bullet for the twist of barrel you have.
Any other info that you can give us the better we can help you. Is it a free floated barrel? (You said it was a police model) Is it a PSS Remington with a HS Precision stock (These are free floated.). What kind of scope and what type of rings and base do you have? Are they tightened to the proper specs? Info, info, info....SmokeRolls

I would drop the H4350 for the 300RUM. I would try H4831 SC. If you don't know the round count on the barrel, you might want to see if you can track that down if possible. Next. The 300RUM is kinda brutal, are you sure you are not flinching from the recoil? Some weapons need a muzzlebreak to tame the recoil and to keep you from flinching.(You may not even realize you are doing it.)..If you fire it very little, you probably don't have to worry about it but if you are practicing with the 300RUM and shooting it quite a bit, your body knows that the mule will kick and it will try to brace itself (A flinch insues)
On the 308 are you running factory brass like federal or remington?............SmokeRolls

Re: 308 & 300 rum help please

I use ADI powders here but they are the same as some you have mentioned
300Rum I was running 208 amax's in my 1:10 26"twist rum (action now sold) with 91.2 of AR2225 (Retumbo) and 92.5gr AR2217 (H100) both shot .350" and 3050-3150 fps and are warm so work up
Now also have a 1:13 twist longer barreled 300Rum that I use the 190 berger with 93gr AR2217 (H1000) but quite mild @3200 fps

Re: 308 & 300 rum help please

I will check to see if I am flinching. I don't think so but will get a friend to stand beside me and load the gun and see. Yes I've got some win brass and nosler custom but I heard that it was no good. My 308 shoots really well to about 650 after that it just gets crazy I will try to read more on here and get better thanks .

Re: 308 & 300 rum help please

Thank-you I'll try some h 1000 just got that powder earlier this week. When I say won't group its just not really close Ill get some pictures of groups posted soon. I've moved the Bullets in and out they seem to like the jump better. Gun has a long for lack of better words throat. The bullet will almost fall out when you try to measure to reach the lands.

Re: 308 & 300 rum help please

I had the same problem with my 300 RUM when i bought it. I have since changed the barrel out for a Krieger barrel. with my handloads I have found that RE 22 is one of the best powders for this round, easily doing .75 moa and will do .25 moa if I shoot it right( using 208 AMAX).only thing I don't like about RE 22 is that the velocity seems to jump a lot when shooting in different temps. another powder that has worked well for me is H4831SC. My go to round for the 300 RUM is Nosler brass, CCI 250, 79.0 gr H4831SC,208 AMAX, 3.66" OAL it gets me 2700-2750 fps and shoots .5 moa at 100 yds, it easily has enough velocity to get to 1000 yds, and its a middle of the road load, so you can still work it up to the high side if more velocity is wanted.
