308 build ?

Gonna make me a 308 for f class.what is the best barrel length and twist to use and bullet weight..Range will be 300 to 500 tops//
And I am thinking of making it a heavy rifle to help with the recoil..There will be no weight limits at our shoots..Thanks..

F class has a weight limit. Are you limited to 308?
Choose a bullet weight. Choose a budget(flatlines are going to be hot but expensive). Call your manufactor of choice on the barrel and ask them what twist and tell them the game. I have a feeling Bartlien knows more about barrel twist than me and 98% of the population. Get it fitted up by the best. Matches are won by a single x a lot at these ranges.

18.15# max weight with bipod attached.

You will want a 10 twist to run 200+gr bullets, 26" min length. 30" is better.

All of the cut barrels are good, I prefer 5r bbls as they seem to run a little faster.

Current load is 185gr hybrid @ 2680fps with a 26" tube.

When I rebarrel, I will go with a 30" bbl and switch to 200-20x Berger's in Palma brass.
