Rifle Scopes .308 Fixed 6x

Hello,

I gave up trying to like the Trijicon 3x9 amber triangle on my PWS mk216. Main use is coyote hunting open hills country, 100-300 yards has been my limit with this optic but I would like to dial in a setup to be comfortable taking 4-450 yard shots.

-I like the reticle of the SWFA SS 6x42 but it seems like a big optic and I do not need elevated turrets.

- Leupold FXII 6x36 would be ideal 11.4" length and only 10 oz, but I was really wanting mil dots.

6x would be a good number I think 10x would be hard to find my target but I am open to suggestions!

Well Leupold does not list it in their custom shop, but you might could call and see if they could put one in there for you.

Have you thought about the SWFA 3-9? Same overall size, though excellent for the price.

Thank you for the response I might give Leupold a call. I was hoping to find a fix power as I rarely found the need to adjust my magnification and like the idea of a simple optic but it seems my options are pretty slim now day as most manufactures discontinued their fixed powers. I have a rmr I was planning on offset mounting.

What benefits do you gain out of a 6x vs say a 1-6 power?

Fixed powers are simpler. Therefore, given the same level of quality and construction, are much more durable and lighter and generally less expensive.

The swfa 3-9 is a fine scope. I think it could fit your needs well and they can be bought for around 400-450 in the marketplace. Great glass, good reticle, and awesome warranty

ACOG with a 308 BDC reticule? If you can find a leupold 2.5-8 with the 556 or 308 dial that should be close enough for farm work using say 150gr hunting ammo.

That is an option. I have not spent much time behind a non illuminated reticle, will it be hard to see with various backdrops, foliage, ect.?

I originally planned on throwing a acog on but a friend talked me out of it. I have spent some time on a 3.5x acog with a .308 bullet drop and really liked it but I think it would be hard to consistently hit vitals at distances. Ives had more than one coyote take a .308 168gr hp, spin, fall, get up and take off...

10 grams? Do you mean ounces?

I come from a hunting focus and long range shooting is all new to me so 3-9 and 4x fixed is all I've every known. I put an SWFA 10x on for my initial run into LR shooting but ended up using it for rifle season this year and it was fantastic. So much so I think I may have purchased my last variable power scope. The 10x is more than adequate for 1000 yards and I picked off more than a few corn thieves at 30 yards with no problem. Tracking moving game on 10x was no more difficult for me than with a 4x out of a stand or the truck with some support. With both eyes open I just keep tracking with left and as I shoulder the file and mash my cheek weld voila they appear in the scope. YMMV, but I think a 6 would be easy peezey b/c I'm not what I'd call a highly skilled and polished rifleman just a dumb farmboy hick and the 10 works great for me. As a point of ref I shoot a PWS Mk116 for yotes/deer with day glass and hogs/yotes thermal at night.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine. I will tell you straight up no scope has ever held zero like this thing it's crazy it's been bumped around a lot on quads, truck beds etc. Don't know if it's a product of fixed vs variable, but sure is nice to know I can bang around in the woods and know it's spot on.
