.308 Load recipe

I was talking to a buddy of mine and he’s thinking about coming up with his own loads for his .308. Personally, I’m not there yet and I still prefer to buy BH 175. However, I’m curious should I decide to start loading my own, I would like some help with a point to start from.

Does anyone out there have a good recipe for .308? I’m already loading 5.56 and .45 so I’m familiar with the process for bulk reloading. I know it’s a bit different for precision rounds so I’m trying to do my homework now.

Thanks
R.

Re: .308 Load recipe

My 2 favorite 308 loads are:
Lapua brass
168 Nosler Custom Comp Bullet
CCI-BR-2 primer
43.5gr IMR-4064/OR 45.5 Varget
2.850 OAL
This load works wonders in all 4 of my tactical rifles. TRG-22,FN-SPRA2,Kimber Advanced Tactical, and Rem 700P. Good luck.

Try 44.5 to slow it down a tad or to get closer to 2600fps. 44.3 drops below 2600 so it's pointless unless oyu have a short barrel</div></div>

i load mine to 45gr varget, same brass and primer.... i get 2500fps out of 18" barrel.

and still have juice for distance....

Re: .308 Load recipe

My Savage 10FP likes:

43.3 to 43.5 gr. of IMR4064 or Varget (IMR slightly better)
Lapua brass
CCI BR2 primers
168 gr. Barnes TTSX seated to 2.800 OAL
(Great hunting round and .5 to .75 MOA at the range too)

or:

46.0 gr. of Reloader 15
Lapua brass
CCI BR2 primers
155 gr. Lapua Scenars seated to 2.800 OAL
(Consistent .5 MOA or less at the range out to 300 haven't had the chance to go farther than 300 yet)
