I agree with Trigger Monkey. They are excellent rifles for the money. I don't think that it fits the true definition of a "custom rifle." But out of the box <span style="text-decoration: underline">from the factory</span>, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a better dollar for dollar gun.
I think the difference between a gun like the SPR A1a, and a true "custom" is going to be in the last few percent; the very fine details. I think a custom gun provides a little more "tailoring to the specific shooter" than the FNH factory guns provide. However, if the FNH fits you well, and suits your preferences, I think you will find very little difference in performance between the FNH and a good custom built gun. Especially if you spend a few hundred dollars completing the gun with bedding the action (the only <span style="text-decoration: underline">real big</span> performance gain between the sub $2000 A1a and the $2800 A3G).
