hello everyone,just wondering if anyone would share their 1000 yd load for the 308.the only components that i will be using ar lapua brass,varget,155 nosler or 175 smk.and what kind of zero at 100 yds to get you close at a 1000.thanks in advance.

thanks john,i will give that one a try,i have been shootin 46 gr of varget and 155 noslers.just noticed that alot of people seem to like the 175 smk for 1000 yd.

I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded part above.
Also, You should either give the type of rifle, barrel lenght, twist etc when you ask or ask for what those loads are based on when you get a recipe or the info is somewhat meaningless, IMHO.

175 SMK, Fed Brass, seated .010" off the lands; 42.6 grains 4064, Fed 210M primer.

With the above listed 175 grain load, using open sights on an M1A, the rear sight is 54-57 clicks up. The bullet rises to around 161 feet above the line of sight midway in its flight. Time of flight 1.3 seconds.
So,by moving back to the 100 yard line, a hold above the bull of about 3 feet would place the bullet close to the 1,000 yard target.
There are just too many variables to say do this and you will see that....still it is a real hoot to shoot 1,000 yards with any rifle.

Dont count out the 155 palmas either. Depending on your twist rate in your barrel it could serve you very beneficial.

Why would you setup your scope like that? Zero your rifle at 100 and dial in the elevation for 1000.

Anyone shot a .308" 168gr Amax to 1000 yards? Theoretically, 2600 FPS should be enough velocity. Is it?

You won't be able to get out of working up a good long range load in YOUR rifle. The quickest way to 1000 is with factory match ammo. But if you insist on reloading at this point in your journey, and have access to only 100 yards, the fastest way to start long-range load development is to seat to the lands and look for consistent velocities and low SD numbers.

Im using 44.9 gr Varget behind the 175 SMK in a Win case and CCI primer. I am zeroed at 37.5 moa high at 100 yards.

well it is an easy start for me,thanks for all the helpful imfo guys,have been shooting and reloading for many years,actually feel old thinking about it.also have done extensive shooting out to 600 hundred yards.savage 10fcp 1-10 twist,rem 700 p ,just recently found a 1k range that we plan on frequenting,both of our rifles are excellent shooters and are set up for long range.but back to the question of why i would set the zero like that.verify my zero at 100,measure 37.5 high , put a mark ,then from a rest dial my scope from the mark down to my 100 yard zero. that will get me in the ballpark.thanks again to all who are participating in this thread,i said varget and 175s because this what i will be shooting along with 155s.i already have a good load for the 155s.

Push 155 lapuas about 2950 and dial 8.3 mills above your 100 zero and have at it. Simple
