338 Edge Build, Scope Choice, Barrel length???

I am currently in the process of a 338 Edge build, It is a blueprinted Remington 700 Long Action with longer mag box and BDL floorplate, Manners T4, I believe a Mike Rock 1-10 barrel. I would like you guys input on what scope and mounting system I should go with and barrel length. I will be shooting 300gr SMKs and it is going to be a long range tactical/ long range hunting rifle. I am wanting to push the rifle to its longest effective distance, thanks in advance.

I would talk with Shawn Carlock over at Defensive Edge. He is the most knowledgeable person that I have spoken with regarding this round. As for the particulars, I would say that you are probably going to need to go between 28 and 30 inches to get the most powder burn for that cartridge. As for the scope and mounting system, especially given your usage of long range hunting, I would recommend Nightforce, probably the 5.5-22x50 or 56 with the NP-R1 reticle. I like NF bases and rings also. I have used Leupold Mark $ steel rings for a while and like them also.

I am about take delivery of similar sort of setup but in .338 Norma Mag which is not as powerful as the EDGE. To that end I went for 28" barrel + Break. I have some 30" tubes and I wanted to make this rig just that little more portable. If your going to be setting up at a vantage point and this is your main long range rifle I would go the 30" tube.

As for scope you can spend more than NXS but for the majority of people the features on the scopes the in the next Tier probably would not get used. So NXS for bang for buck and will do everything and more that you need.

I would opt for the NXS 5.5-22x56 or 50 in the MLR reticle with Mil turretts but I prefer a MIL based scope over MOA

28" or 30" and a Nightforce 5.5-22, you'll like it. I've got a nightforce 20MOA base with Buriis Signature rings on mine.
