Planning to build an Edge, and I've searched and seen a LOT of different info out there, most of it from a few years back. I figure there have got to be some new opinions out there now as the cartridge has been rather popular as of late.

From what I've read, barrel length needs to be at least 28", preferably 30" to get any advantage over just a RUM, so I plan on something at least 28" or longer.

I plan on shooting 300gr pills, and my goal is to sling them past a mile, hopefully out to 2 miles one day.

Twist rate is really frustrating. Seems a lot of people doing fine with a 1:10, but others say you need a 9.3, 9.4, etc to stabilize them. I don't really see much info about a 1:9. Cutting Edge says you need at least 220,000 rpm to stabilize the 300gr MTH I was looking at, which would need at least a 1:9.1 assuming the velocity is around 2800fps.

Any thoughts on a 1:9 twist? I really only plan to use this gun for ELR stuff, definitely over 1k-1400 yds (I've got a Creedmoor for that. lol), so I think I'll do best with the 300gr pills.

Any and all thoughts/help/info is greatly appreciated.

I don't shoot the edge, but I shoot a 338 lapua. I used the CE 254 Grain solids as the 300's required too much twist. I had them up at 3200fps with a 26" barrel.

I would go 9.4 as you wont ever regret having the extra unless you are shooting light bullets

Barrel length......depends on what you are doing. Im building a 20" 338 as I will only shoot it to 1500 or so and I want to be able to move it without a cart :)

Yeah, the issue I'm running into is I'm trying not to spend a fortune, and it looks like my only options with the barrel I'm looking at are 1:9 and 1:10. Any idea on what the lightest I could go on a 1:9 would be? I'm thinking I'd be fine, since I'm really only looking to use this rig for ELR.

No replies in the ELR forum, so I moved it here, still only one reply. I KNOW there are a ton of Edges out there now, are they on another forum somewhere I haven't found? lol Any and all info here is better than nothing...

I have a edge with a 10 twist 27" bartlein that works great with 300 Bergers well beyond 1000 yards. I have never noticed any stability issues, though living at 4600 feet doesn't hurt

Hah, the 4600 definitely doesn't hurt. The place I shoot here is down around 860'... I'm really jealous. lol What the farthest you've stretched it out, and at what size target?

I am at 3200 feet...........
#1 is running just over 2780 fps 1-10 twist with 300 smk in a 24".
#2 is running 2810 fps 1-10 twist with 300 otm in a 24".
#3 is running 2840 fps 1-10 twist with 300 otm from a 26"
All three of these rifles are at or around 1/4" moa and have bean pushed out to the limits of my range finders with stellar results, suggesting no stability issues.
