Does anybody have a 338 edge. I have been told by a few on the site to look at them before i do my next build. i was going to do a 338 lapua, but have pulled some ballistics on the edge, looks real good. Just wanted to see some feedback on somone who has delt with one at some longer range, handloads, etc. thanks

Re: 338 EDGE

92gr. of H1000 behind a 300gr. SMK is the ticket. Shawn Carlock at Defensive Edge is the Edge Guru.

Re: 338 EDGE

Very nice. I was going to build on a rem 700 action as well, i was going to use douglas barrels, only beacuse i have used a few before and liked them? any thoughts what barrel do you have there? how is the recoil, do you break it or not on when hunting? also what bbl length did you go with on yours? thanks for the insight

Re: 338 EDGE

Mines a 28" Mike Rock. No brake, it weighs 19lbs fully loaded. Its got a pretty good boom to it but it's not violent.

Re: 338 EDGE

I will be contacting Mr. Carlock soon regarding an Edge.I started to build one last year , but went with another 300 RUM instead(long story)

BTW.......I highly recommend JP Ent.'s brake on these ultramags. They really tame the recoil well. A pic of my 300 RUM with the JP installed....

Re: 338 EDGE

I own a few of them, and have built alot of them for customers. Very easy to load for and scary accurate. It doesn't see care about seating depth, load changes, etc...pretty much the 308 of 338's...it will shoot anything you feed them most of the time. I wouldn't go below a 28" barrel...otherwise you might at well go with the 338 RUM. With a brake, recoil isn't bad at all, even with the 11lb rifles. Similar to an unbraked 7mm WSM shooting 180's. Both of my heavy rifles weigh 13.5lbs and I have shot them way more than 50 times in a day.....

Its is great caliber and alternative to the 338 Lapua. Velocity will be the same or slightly more than the Lapua also. Brass lasts around 6-8 firings.

Re: 338 EDGE

Thnaks for all your input, ill go with the edge. theres to many people that like it, yet it is still a newer round, still has the mystique yet. Thanks and nice guns.

Re: 338 EDGE

I built mine with a benchmark barrel (360 652 2594 ask for ron) it is 30" 8 flute with fat bastard brake 3 groove 10twist and it loves 300smk also and they are a pleasure to deal with and they are good people.

I generally use Broughton barrels with my own contour and 3/8" fluting. I have also used a few Rock's as well. The Broughtons seem to run a little faster.

Most of the barrels are 30", although the two pictured are 31"...just worked out that way. Velocity with the 30" barrels runs 2870-2900 with the 300gr SMK. The 28" version usually runs right at 2820.
